It has been a rollercoaster of a season for 'Stargirl'. Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) found herself in possession of a cosmic staff, a legacy bequeathed by Starman, and ever since, things have been topsy-turvy. In the span of one season, she incapacitated Brainwave (Christopher James Baker) and put him in a coma for several months, she lost to Icicle (Neil Jackson), saw her classmate die and then recruited an entire team of young members for the Justice Society Of America (JSA).

Brainwave recovered, returned, killed his son because he was getting in the way of his super-sinister plans, and now wants to telepathically control the world. That's just the half of it, as there was much family drama, as Courtney realized her real father was not Starman. And she realized that legacy isn't required to possess the staff and that she's a true superhero.

So in short, a LOT happened on 'Stargirl'. Courtney's mother Barbara and step-brother Mike (Trae Romano) stayed in the periphery, till recently. Barbara has finally accepted that her teenage daughter is a staff-wielding superhero, and Mike has learned the truth at last. Mike has shown that he isn't afraid to step up when it comes to villains hurting the people he loves, as he shot down Sportsmaster with a grill while he was threatening to kill Pat. Considering the world is in peril and the adults have lost their sense of control, it's up to the kids. And just maybe, Mike can help Courtney too.

For a while now, there has been much speculation on whether Mike will become a superhero. Could he possibly be the hero, who might get to possess the pink pen? Fans have been pondering this for a while now. In Episode 3, Mike made a reference to Jakeem Williams. He revealed he wanted to invite his friend to dinner. "I wanted to bring my buddy Jakeem over," he said.

Fans of the comic books know that this means Jakeem Williams, Johnny Thunder's successor who had received Johnny's pink pen by accident only to discover Thunderbolt from the 5th dimension, could very well be around. Jakeem joined the JSA and became friends with Rick Tyler AKA Hourman. Jakeem did not appear in the episode, but it's as if the show is pointing towards Mike taking up the mantle in the future. It's an interesting possibility and Barbara would have to deal with two superhero kids in the house.

'Stargirl' airs on The CW on Tuesdays at 8 pm.
