'Stargirl' Episode 9 Preview: Will Courtney's plan to recruit Brainwave Jr to the JSA rip the team apart?
Henry King Jr (Jake Austin) just discovered that he has the same powers as his father, Brainwave, who is currently incapacitated and is in hospital. In Episode 8, while Shiv (Meg DeLacy) and Courtney (Brec Bassinger), were battling it out in the middle of the street, Henry was getting overwhelmed by their thoughts. Just before the fight between the two girls could reach a conclusion, Henry sent out strong telepathic brainwaves that sent Shiv hurtling into the air.
While Dragon King's minions took Shiv away, Henry was able to read Stargirl's thoughts and figure out that she was indeed Courtney Whitmore. Well, it's not as if Courtney was trying to be subtle about it at all, anyway. In the next episode, Courtney is determined to use his powers for the better and wants to recruit him to the Justice Society Of America, though obviously, Yolanda Montez (Yvette Monreal) does not want that.
It remains to be seen which side Henry will choose — whether he decides to use his powers for good or for evil.The official synopsis reads: "Tensions rise among JSA members after Courtney suggests who she wants to recruit next to the team. Meanwhile, Barbara invites Jordan and his family over for dinner, and Henry Jr makes a surprising discovery about his father."
Henry and his father have had a very strained relationship, as Brainwave Sr (Christopher James Baker) had constantly put him down and humiliated him at every chance he got. However, after Brainwave Sr's battle with Stargirl sent him into a coma, Henry has been seen often at the hospital, hoping for his father's recovery. Furthermore, Henry just discovered Brainwave's suit in Episode 8.
Henry in the JSA might tear the team apart. If you remember correctly, Yolanda and Henry had a little relationship back in the day. It all ended when she sent him a private photo of herself, and it somehow was mysteriously leaked to the entire school. Obviously, Shiv was behind that, but nobody knows that yet. Since then, Yolanda had shut herself off from everyone, as even her family had grounded her indefinitely.
Courtney drew her out and gave her the Wildcat costume and on the first mission itself, Yolanda seemed to want to murder Henry in cold blood. In the promo for Episode 9, Yolanda tells Henry that his soul isn't worth saving. Well... Tune into 'Stargirl' on The CW on Tuesdays at 8 pm to find out what happens next.
