'Star Wars: The Clone Wars': Fans are exultant over show confirming that Obi-Wan knew Anakin's big secret
Spoiler alert for 'A Distant Echo' - Episode 2 of Season 7 of 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars'
It's the first real appearance of Obi-Wan Kenobi (James Arnold Taylor) in this final season of 'The Clone Wars' and though it was brief, it left quite an impact. With a single line, Obi-Wan reveals that he knew of Anakin Skywalker's (Matt Lanter) big secret - the one Anakin has been trying to keep through the entirety of the Clone Wars.
Anakin has taken a moment alone to talk with Padme Amidala (Catherine Taylor), who he's been secretly hiding a relationship with. The pair got married at the end of 'Star Wars: Attack of the Clones' despite strict rules about the Jedi being barred from forming emotional attachments. Though Obi-Wan didn't actually see Anakin talk to Padme, while Anakin walks away from Obi-Wan thinking he's successfully covered up his secret conversation, Obi-Wan calls out, "I hope you at least told Padme I said hello."
This reveal that Obi-Wan knew about the relationship and helped keep it a secret, instead of reporting Anakin to the Jedi Order, has sent fans wild.
"This episode of Clone Wars literally confirms everything I’ve always thought about Obi-Wan’s relationship toward Anidala and I’m LIVING FOR IT," writes this Twitter user. "OMG!!!! Obi-Wan & Rex knowsssssss! I can't believe it. What an amazing addition to this episode. Could be one of my favourite Clone Wars moments now," writes another fan, which is saying a lot, considering that there have been 6 whole seasons of amazing 'The Clone Wars' moments.
Obi-Wan isn't the only one who knew about Padme - Captain Rex (Dee Bradley Baker) appears in on the secret as well. "OMG! #CaptainRex knew about Anakin and Padmé and kept it a secret!" exclaims this viewer. Another fan found it hard to form coherent words in their excitement, "REX BEING ANAKIN'S LOOKOUT AND MAKING EXCUSES FOR HIM FUFHFJFHFH WE'RE NOT DURING REVENGE OF THE SITH SO ANAKIN DOESNT KNOW SHE'S PREGNANT SOMEHOW . IM JUST !!!!!!! AHHHHHHHH"
There were powerful reactions all around, but with this being the final season, Padme is a conversation that Obi-Wan and Anakin need to have at some point.
