After several episodes of dense exposition, 'Star Trek: Picard' is ready for its penultimate episode — the second part of the finale 'Et In Arcadia Ego, Part 2'. In the previous episode, Picard's La Sirena crew found themselves in Soji's (Isa Briones) homeworld Coppelius.

It's not the homecoming that Soji would have imagined, as they're first attacked by Narek (Harry Treadaway), then interrupted by a giant Borg Cube, which is all brought to a stop by psychic orchids, all before the show's opening theme.

On Coppelius, we are introduced to a whole lot of synthetic beings. We find that Dr Olton Inegon Sung (Brent Spiner) is alive. It was he who created Data, the first synthetic life form.

Things rapidly spin out of control and the synths want to quench their bloodlust by wiping out all organic lifeforms, once for all. Picard's helpless pleas fall on deaf ears.

The official synopsis for the next episode reads, "Picard and his team are pitted against the Romulans and the synthetics of Coppelius in a final confrontation." So we can prepare for an epic showdown.

Picard has had a tumultuous journey since the beginning of Season 1. He had been estranged from Starfleet, as they had refused to help the Romulans during the Supernova, after the insurrection by rogue synths.

Picard offered them an ultimatum: either they revise the evacuation plan or he hands in his resignation. Much to his shock, they accept his resignation. And then, his First Officer Raffi Musiker was fired too.

For almost two decades Picard led a quiet life in the vineyards of France, haunted by dreams of his best synthetic friend Data (Brent Spiner), who died after sacrificing himself during the events of 'Nemesis'.

And then he encountered Data's daughter 'Dahj' (Isa Briones) who was quickly killed by Romulans. With the help of Dr Jurati, he realized that she has a sister, Soji, who did not know that she was a synthetic till quite recently.

In the previous episode, Soji is ready for revenge, just like the other synths who want to extract their pound of flesh.

'Star Trek: Picard' airs on CBS All Access.
