Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) may have found herself a place in the 32nd Century, but it's a different story altogether for the crew of the USS Discovery. Though the ship was only a short distance behind Burnham as they flew towards the future, that short distance could translate to years, even centuries, thanks to the imprecise nature of time travel through wormholes. Though we know that Burnham and her crew will be reunited, we don't know how many weeks, months or years she's been stranded alone before her crew comes to the rescue. Before they can do that, however, they have a few problems of their own to deal with.

The launch into the time rift wasn't the smoothest, and the crew of the Discovery is all knocked out by their passage. A sneak peek for the next epsiode reveals that the crew only just wake up in time to see the new world they've been launched into, and like Burnham before them, they're in for a rough landing. Unlike Burnham, however, they're not just dealing with an exosuit but an entire starship set to crash into the first planet they see. No matter who survives the ordeal, the Discovery is going to need some serious repairs before it's sky-worthy again, to say nothing of the fact that they've arrived in a future with a severe dilithium shortage.

The crew is going to have to get used to their new surroundings, and with no Federation to back them up, they're on their own in their seach for Burnham. Saru (Doug Jones) and Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman) are leading the search, venturing out through the planet they've crashed on and even making an ally in new character Zareh (Jake Weber). Even in the worst of surroundings, it's only a matter of time before the crew is reunited with Burnham, but how much has she changed in the time that has passed?

The synopsis for this episode titled 'Far From Home' reads: "After the U.S.S. Discovery crash-lands on a strange planet, the crew finds themselves racing against time to repair their ship. Meanwhile, Saru and Tilly embark on a perilous first-contact mission in hopes of finding Burnham." You can watch a sneak peak for the episode below.
