Michael Burnham made a fateful choice to save the Federation before saving the crew in the Verubin Nebula - will the entire universe pay for that choice?

When Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) pushed the Discovery to find out the true origin of the Burn, it set off a series of events that went from bad to worse. The good news is that the Discovery finally found out the origin of the Burn. The bad news is that its originator, a Kelpian named Su'Kal (Bill Irwin) and his mysterious connection to dilithium is still alive, well, and emotionally fragile enough to initiate another Burn. The worse news is that Osyraa (Janet Kidder) used this moment to hijack the Discovery and its spore drive, used it to sneak into Federation headquarters and is now threatening to end the Federation once and for all.

In all fairness to Osyraa, she did try to come to a peaceful arrangement to ally with the Federation. However, the fact that she refused to stand trial for her crimes was the one thing that had Admiral Vance (Oded Fehr) turn her offer down. From the looks of the trailer for the next episode, it looks like Osyraa is now out for revenge, ready to burn down what little remains of the Federation, effectively ending it once and for all. Burnham is slowly making her way through the ship to lead the fight against Osyraa to take back the Discovery, but she's on a clock that is rapidly clicking down.

Because it's not just Osyraa and her army of Emerald Chain ships that need to be dealt with. Back in the Verubin Nebula, Saru (Doug Jones), Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz) and Adira Tal (Blu del Barrio) are left to babysit Su'Kal, to keep him calm to prevent him from triggering another Burn-like event. They are all slowly succumbing to the radiation poisoning from the Nebula, however, and if the Discovery isn't able to return to them on time, they will be past all hope of saving. Burnham has made her choice of priorities - she's saving the Federation before her crew - but will she able to defeat Osyraa in time to save everyone?

You can watch the trailer for the episode below, which reveals that Burnham has some difficult choices to make and even bigger risks to take:
