It isn’t new that most American reporters get on the nerves of celebrities. Be it when Taylor Swift was insensitively asked about how many men she’ll take back home or when Rihanna was asked what she expects in a man right after her break up, American reporters tend to trigger celebs. With that being said, an ignorant reporter asked a terrible question to 'Squid Game' actor and model Jung Ho Yeon to which, she had an unfazed answer.

The world-famous Korean Netflix show ‘Squid Game’ has bagged several awards since its release. Recently, the series was nominated under categories such as Female Actor in a Drama Series, Male Actor in a Drama Series, Stunt Ensemble in a TV Series, and Drama Ensemble at 2022 SAG Awards. Unsurprisingly, except for the Drama Ensemble award, the crew grabbed the rest of the awards. After the glorious victory, the stars were asked questions by American reporters. This is when one ruthless question by a reporter from Access Hollywood was thrown at Jung Ho Yeon. The reporter asked, “Now that you’re SAG winners, what are you going to miss the most about being anonymous?” While everyone heard the question, the Korean translator tweaked it to the stars and said, “Now that you have won SAG awards, what would you miss from the time where you were less famous in America?” to not create chaos. But by the looks of how things were, Jung Ho Yeon got the atmosphere and simply said, “Nothing.” Guess the reporter didn’t do enough research or might have purposely asked the question because Jung Ho Yeon’s English skills are really good. She definitely understood the question and had this beautiful smile on her face before bolding shunning the question down with one solid answer.

Is this the first time American reporters did this to Korean stars?

Not really! Back when 'Squid Game' peaked on the charts, interviews were piling up in the cast members’ schedule. Speaking of that, a famous actor and one of the main leads of 'Squid Game' Lee Jung Jae was asked an ignorant question that triggered his fan base. Lee Jung Jae, who has been in the Korean media industry since 1993, was asked by an interviewer, “I’m sure you can’t leave the house anymore without people recognizing you. What has been the biggest life change for you since the series came out?” This question made the actor's fanbase annoyed at the reporter’s lack of research on the actor. But Lee Jung Jae had the perfect and polite answer that raised his reputation even more. Apart from this, there are other incidents when South Korean stars were disrespected. In 2021’s Academy Awards, Oscar winner Yuh-Jung Youn from the movie ‘Minari’ was asked what Brad Pitt smelled like after she received the award from him. She responded instantly saying, "I didn't smell him. I'm not a dog. No.” Additionally, the ‘Parasite’ crew was asked whether they knew English by the reporters. Being the first non-English movie to bag the Best Picture award at the Oscars, this question made the audience realize how narcissistic Americans can become.
