'Spider-Man: No Way Home' mid-credits scene explained: Does Venom meet Peter Parker?
Spoilers for 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continues to deliver and the third Peter Parker film, 'Spider-Man: No Way Home', a collab between Marvel Studios and Sony does justice by dishing out a funny, but a valuable mid-credits scene that would leave 'Venom' fans pretty happy. Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and his badass symbiote make a brief appearance in the film's mid-credits, an extension of what was shown in 'Venom: Let There be Carnage' earlier this year.
The scene sees Eddie sitting at a bar and making sense of how he was teleported from his world to the one where Peter Parker (Tom Holland) lives and find out more of the events that transpired in the multiverse. The crossover special scene sees Venom and the journalist jumping into the MCU and then learning about the Avengers, including Thanos, with a bartender (Cristo Fernández) giving the details. Eddie decides to head to New York and track Peter, while Venom suggests the drunk pair go skinny-dipping.
However, the pair are teleported away and most likely sent home to the same universe they came back from. This was perhaps a result of the same spell that Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) cast to send the other Spider-Men and their baddies back to their original worlds. Just before Eddie and Venom are zapped off, they leave behind a fragment of the symbiote and the scene draws to a close.
'Spider-Man: No Way Home' mid-credits scene explained
The symbiote, even though still a fragment, has a mind of its own. Does this mean it would just use the bartender as a host and hunt for Peter in New York? In the 'Venom' sequel, we saw the alien give Eddie a look at hive mind's vast knowledge and somehow meet and recognize Spider-Man, even though they're from different universes. This might even be a connection to 'Spider-Man 3' starring Tobey Maguire as the web-slinger. The movie sees him attached to the symbiote and unraveling his dark self and perhaps this might be why the fragment was consciously left behind.
In 'No Way Home', Maguire's Spidey mentions how he has actually encountered an alien since with black hood, and although Holland's version listens, Andrew Garfield's Peter is stunned by the news and tells there was no Venom in his world. Whether this ties the Venom fragment to one of the other two Spider-Men remains to be seen.
