WASHINGTON, DC: A Chinese spy balloon was found in the northern part of the country specifically in Montana on Thursday, February 2. The balloon was as big as three buses and has been termed a "technology bay." When the news was shared with President Joe Biden, he requested to shoot the high-altitude balloon down. However, authorities suggested watching them and monitoring closely.

According to Daily Mail, Pentagon spokesperson Brig Gen Pat Ryder stated, "The United States government has detected and is tracking a high-altitude surveillance balloon that is over the continental United States right now, We continue to track and monitor it closely." Meanwhile, social media is slamming Biden and the government as the spy balloon was spotted.

What is the officials' response regarding the spy balloon?

Ryder further added, “The balloon is currently traveling at an altitude well above commercial air traffic and does not present a military or physical threat to people on the ground adding that the US military decided against shooting the balloon down." A senior official has opined, "So the first question is, does it pose a threat, a physical kinetic threat, to individuals in the United States in the US homeland? Our assessment is it does not. Does it pose a threat to civilian aviation? Our assessment is it does not. Does it pose a significantly enhanced threat on the intelligence side? Our best assessment right now is that it does not. So given that profile, we assess the risk of downing it, even if the probability is low in a sparsely populated area of the debris falling and hurting someone or damaging property, that it wasn’t worth it," as per CNN.

Another official added, "Currently, we assess that this balloon has limited additive value from an intelligence collection perspective over and above what the PRC can do through other means. Nevertheless, we are taking all necessary steps to protect against foreign intelligence collection of sensitive information. We are confident that this high-altitude surveillance balloon belongs to the [People’s Republic of China]. Instances of this activity have been observed over the past several years, including prior to this administration. It does not create significant value added over and above what the PRC is likely able to collect through things like satellites in low Earth orbit."

'Sorry, we left all our guns in Afghanistan': Internet slams President Joe Biden

The Internet is now criticizing the government and president Biden. Former Acting Director of the United States National Intelligence, Richard Grenell said, "So we can give lethal weaponry to Ukraine but we can’t shoot down a balloon over Montana? Joe Biden is so weak." Another added, " This is shameful" A user said, "Embarrassing and very scary at the same time." Another added, "Malicious. I believe that the US took steps to ensure it did not collect sensitive information." A user tweeted, "They are apparently getting a sneak peek at the next episode."

I am beginning to be ashamed of being an American. I never saw myself ever saying that." Another added, "Sorry, we left all our guns in Afghanistan." "The balloon doesn’t have any money laundering secrets, so of course he doesn’t feel the need to destroy it," wrote a user.
