#SoreLoser trends after calls to boycott Walmart for mocking Josh Hawley, Internet says 'should've stuck by it'
Walmart Twitter handle on Wednesday, December 30, responded to news of Republican Senator Josh Hawley's announcement that he would be objecting to the Electoral College certification. The official handle tweeted out to Hawley's announcement on his handle and wrote, "Go ahead. Get your 2 hour debate." This was then picked up by Hawley's Chief of Staff Kyle Plotkin, who spotted the screenshot taken by Kyle Cheney, the Congress reporter for Politic and he tweeted at Walmart asking if they could explain what had just happened. The tweet has since been deleted and Hawley had also tweeted at the retailer and wrote, "Thanks @Walmart for your insulting condescension. Now that you’ve insulted 75 million Americans, will you at least apologize for using slave labor?" He then added, "Or maybe you’d like to apologize for the pathetic wages you pay your workers as you drive mom and pop stores out of business."
Hi @Walmart. Can you explain this one? https://t.co/GW1NI4JVjw

Since then, Walmart has formally apologized to the senator and claimed that a member of Walmart's social media team had mistakenly posted what was supposed to be a private message on their personal handle. According to a report in Washington Examiner, Casey Staheli, Walmart's senior manager, was quoted as saying, "The tweet was mistakenly posted by a member of our social media team who intended to publish this comment to their personal account." She further added, "We have removed the post and have no intention of commenting on the subject of certifying the electoral college. We apologize to Senator Hawley for this error and any confusion about our position.”
Twitter users are, however, not too happy with the retailer and many have since said how they wished Walmart did post the tweet. One user wrote, "Awe! I was already boycotting for the unsafe and horrible working conditions. Now I have to support at least their social media team for being smart... difficult choice." One fan also wrote, "No @Walmart we need this. You should have kept the tweet up and stuck by it. This bulls**t needs to be called out. Give that guy the day off and a commendation in his file. ^_^."

Another added, "All the anti maskers saying they won’t shop @Walmart is amazing news for Walmart staff and shoppers." Many others also reflected the same thought as one shared, "Lmao all the Trump voters saying they won't shop at Walmart. Good joke!" and another responded, "Lol I’ve been to towns where 'going to Walmart' was a fuc*** event. No way they give that up."

Regarding the opposing of the Electoral College certification, Hawley said in a statement, "Following both the 2004 and 2016 elections, Democrats in Congress objected during the certification of electoral votes in order to raise concerns about election integrity. They were praised by Democratic leadership and the media when they did," and added, "And they were entitled to do so. But now those of us concerned about the integrity of this election are entitled to do the same.”
