Spoilers for ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Anytime someone hears ‘Marvel’ there are a few things that pop into their minds, besides the superheroes, of course. One of those things is cameos. Whether it’s the Marvel Cinematic Universe or Sony’s Marvel, cameos are a must. ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ really held the cameo cards close to their chest, shocking all the fans as the movie played out on the big screen.

One of the unique things about ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ was the live-action cameos. Yes, live-action cameos in an animated film are unheard of, but if there’s anyone who can do it, it’s most certainly this franchise. These cameos ranged from emotional to shocking to hilarious and also left people pondering over them.

Peggy Lu as Mrs Chen

Those of you who are familiar with ‘Venom’ would also be familiar with Mrs Chen, who appears in the franchise. She is a good friend of Eddie Brock and owns a convenience store in San Francisco. Although she didn’t interact with Miles Morales or the other Spider-Men, she did interact with the supervillain, The Spot. The Spot unleashed new powers and began experimenting with those powers when he realized he could pop into just about any universe. He ends up peeping into the Venom universe, and is shocked by how unphased Mrs. Chen is, but can you blame her?

Donald Glover as Aaron Davis aka The Prowler

When Miles Morales enters the Spider Society with Gwen Stacy, Hobie, and Pavitr, he sees an endless number of Spider-People and their nemesis. While there are several villains trapped in Spider Society, one especially stood out. We see Donald Glover sitting in his trap, looking disinterested as he briefly interacts with Miles. He makes two appearances in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ and they are both worth the screen time! As of now, it hasn’t been confirmed if this character has any connection with ‘Spiderman: Homecoming’, but it’s definitely going to keep everyone guessing.

Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker

Now this cameo was gasp-worthy, even if it was only a glimpse. There was no new footage or acting from Garfield in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’. Miguel O’Hara is trying his level best to explain the multiversal events to Miles, and how sometimes tragedies are inevitable. More importantly, if these events are prevented, they could cause an entire world to collapse. This is when we catch a glimpse of Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker from ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ (2012) when he mourns the death of Captain Stacy, Gwen’s father. It was only a clip, but an important cameo nonetheless.

Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker

Similar to Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire also appears in a cameo, which is essentially a clip fished from ‘Spider-Man’ (2002) when Uncle Ben dies. This was Miguel’s way of telling Miles that in all universes, the Captain Stacys, Uncle Bens, and Aunt Mays do end up dying, and one shouldn’t come in the way of that. This was also a great opportunity for ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ to show Tom Holland’s Spider-Man mourning the death of Aunt May. However, it wasn’t included.
