In addition to Nuevo Leon, the Secretary of Public Security, Aldo Fasci revealed last month that other organized crime groups are currently functional in Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel, Northeast Cartel, Gulf Cartel, Sinaloa Cartel and the Beltrán Leyva Cartel. Fasci added, "The Jalisco Cartel has a very clear fight against the Sinaloa Cartel and against other groups, so since there is a threat that Jalisco will enter Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, the other big cartels have set up camp in certain rural areas."
He continued by saying, "And one of them that sells to the locals and that had a presence here, which is basically Sinaloa, is taking advantage of it… so we have to confirm whether that is true or not because what we want to avoid is a war here."
El Cano's arrest is also being linked to the homicide of three men whose bodies were found with traces of violence and a narco-card on Bosque y Roble avenue in the Portal del Norte neighborhood of the Zuazua municipality, on December 17, 2021, reports El Financiero. The discovery of these three bodies took place just hours after Nancy Gutiérrez took office as Zuazua mayor after winning the election back in November. Borderland Beat wrote of the incident last year, how a police source reported to Sur Acapulco newspaper that the deceased men were found to have their hands and feet bound, as well as displaying signs of torture and coup de grâce (killing shots to the head). Their bodies were said to be wrapped in clear plastic. Photos of the alleged sign were translated by Sol Prendido:
"This message goes out to all the "chapulines" (literally "grasshopper", this is a slang term for an individual that jumps from group to group). The clean up has begun. Pure Sinaloa.
Sincerely,
Commander Cano"
It is well known that the Sinaloa Cartel is one of the most brutal drug trafficking and crime groups that is believed to have started as early as towards the end of the 1980s. Called one of the most powerful groups, it was previously led by Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman. In 2019, Guzman was jailed for life. As per the US Office of Public Affairs, Guzman was a "principal leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, a Mexico-based international drug trafficking organisation responsible for importing and distributing more than a million kilograms of cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine and heroin in the US."
