‘Silicon Valley’ Season 6 finale: Dinesh and Gilfoyle's ‘bromance’ and Zach Woods’ Jared Dunn will be missed most
The end of HBO’s tech world comedy series ‘Silicon Valley’ was a bittersweet experience. The show ended with the PiedPiper team destroying their revolutionary tech in order to save the world.
The main characters, from thereon, moved on with their lives, branching out into careers one would not have expected them to. But the 45-minute-long final episode was also, surprisingly, a very fulfilling one. Viewers from across the globe took to social media to say their goodbyes to the critically-acclaimed comedy series. But they also had questions.
Arjun Patel on Twitter asked, “Where is Richard's thumbdrive? Is there going to be another project after Silicon Valley?” In the final moments of the episode, we saw Richard Hendricks (Thomas Middleditch) telling a documentary filmmaker, ten years after the launch and consequent “failure” of PiedPiper that he had the only surviving copy of PiperNet on a thumb drive.
Of course, true to form, he had misplaced it. It seems unlikely, however, that this could ever turn into fodder for a movie, let alone more surprise seasons for the show.
Viewers also spoke about missing the frenemy-ship shared by Dinesh Chugtai (Kumail Nanjiani) and Bertram Gilfoyle (Martin Starr). Kristen Galiastro said on Twitter, “Never has a show had such a hilarious set of supporting actors than Dinesh and Gilfoyle. If I miss nothing else, it will be your genius banter and conflicts toward each other and on the whole show. Thanks for six seasons of eye-tearing laughs.”
Samantha Arajuo wrote on the social media website, “@SiliconHBO had such a great run. I will seriously miss the bromance between Gilfoyle and Dinesh. Truly legendary.” Twitter user @therealpcorrell, in fact, hoped, “I’m hype, but also sad. Can we get a Dinesh and Gilfoyle spin-off?”
Of course, not everyone was pleased with how the show ended. Twitter user @superswimteam7 wrote, “It's sad to see Silicon Valley ending, but inevitable. Honestly, watching the later seasons, it feels like the writers and actors stopped giving a s**t entirely. The show hasn't been good since they kicked T. J. Miller off the cast in the worst way possible.”
And someone addressed the weirdest elephant in the room. Twitter user @KagDennis noted, “I guess f**king Jian Yang is the only guy that profited from PiedPiper.” Near the ending of the show, we saw that Jian Yang (Jimmy Yang) had turned into a kind of warlord in a south Asian country.
One can only assume Jian faked his own death and possibly murdered Erlich Bachman before definitely assuming his identity. People also expressed how much they were going to miss Jared Dunn (Zach Woods).
Suzanna Tran wrote on Twitter, “Going to miss Jared’s chaotic gentleness the most.” Twitter user @sarahmsmart too had hoped for a spinoff. She wrote, “I would watch a 'Silicon Valley' spin-off focused solely on Jared’s backstory.”
But almost everyone was sad that the show came to its inevitable end. As a Twitter user, Thomas Polito, wrote, “Gonna miss the show but it had a solid, satisfying ending.”
