Cardi B is once again sparring with fans and Twitter users. The rapper sent out a tweet about wanting to buy an expensive bag worth $88,000, and while posting about shopping and new bags is a casual social media habit for most celebrities, the timing of this post didn't seem to sit well with the internet. She wrote, "Should I spend 88K for this damn purse? OMG it’s tempting." The rapper was then bombarded with messages calling her insensitive and unusually extravagant at a time when most Americans are struggling to make ends meet due to the pandemic. Cardi responded by tweeting out screenshots of articles about her being charitable, like the tweet below.

She later wrote, "Also I donated a million dollars to fans through Cash App 2 months ago," followed by another screenshot. She then wrote, "Also, I got seven uncles an three aunts on my daddy side, nine aunts and three uncles on my momma side, a whole bunch of cousins I had to help cause of the pandemic...If I want to splurge I can without y'all asking for handouts like me and my husband don’t do so. Thank you."

Later, replying to a user who wrote, "Donate 88k to a charity for people that need help right now... you know the people that buy your music to perhaps get through these s***ty time's... I don't know just saying," she tweeted, "I already donated 2 million dollars this year and I’m doing something very special in another country that will be done with next year. What have you donated?"

When another fan wrote, "the issue is you should went to your celeb CH or groupchat or whatever y'all rich ppl be doing to ask that obtuse a** question. Not here amongst real people with real problems who cant even conceptualize 88k at this time," Cardi replied tweeting, "The issue is I really don’t have celeb friends. My only celeb friend is my hubby. My real fans be giving me advice & I mostly go by with it. It's not my fault. BARDIGANG are my friends. I'm on twitter for THEM not for YOU!"

Cardi followed this saying, "Okay let’s do this challenge! Since ya want to tell me to donate soo much...Drop receipts on what YOU have donated too. I will match it and donate to a organization you have donate as well. LET'S START NOW!" She then wrote, "Any charity or foundation drop your receipts under the comment I will match what you donated and match your donation to that same charity or foundation. Let's match energy."

After matching a few donations by fans, Cardi's million dollar donation through Cash App was called into question with Twitter user Yashar Ali saying, "Disclosures from CashApp on this clearly stated that Square, the parent company of CashApp, was the sponsor of this giveaway. Did it happen due to your celebrity? Absolutely. But "donated" is not accurate here," followed by, "It doesn't matter how much money you give away, tweeting about buying an $88,000 purse in the midst of a pandemic where people are skipping meals and terrified that they'll be evicted, is deeply insensitive and unnecessary. She chose to tweet it out." Cardi replied saying, "Go cry about it. I never seen you tweet about me when I donated a million dollar twice now you here. I didn’t offended no body, didn’t do nothing illegal. I'm not going to apologize because I work my a** off and I ask MY FANS! Which ARE MY FRIENDS to A QUESTION! Ya want to be hurt so bad."

Finally, replying to a user who wrote, "Imagine gaslighting people for being poor during a pandemic? For someone who claims to come from a 'struggle' this is an awful mindset to have. I hope you never have to experience poverty again because this Cardi, ain't it," Cardi tweeted, "Man STFU I’m not gaslighting people that going through poverty. I’m addressing the people that always screaming to celebs that they constantly drag to donate but never donate themselves. I donate all the time no one say nun now when we talk about spending money we work here ya come."

She then finally apologized saying, "Ok guys I apologize. There you happy ?! I don’t see ya askin' trump for an apology when he out here missing COVID meetings to play golf but."

Cardi then engaged with a few more fans and, according to her timeline, she hasn't purchased the bag yet.
