Slice of Sauce on 'Shark Tank': Who are the founders, what is the cost and where to buy the sliced condiments?
There's no denying that a condiment can significantly elevate any food item to the next level. Simple ketchup, mustard, or even spicy habanero sauce can make a plain old sandwich seem like gourmet food or give that extra kick to your favorite chips.
However, one of the downsides of these condiments is how they can make the bread soggy if it is stored for too long, and not to mention how a tiny mishap with the ketchup bottle can end up ruining your favorite shirt or blouse. Moreover, lugging around a bottle of your favorite condiment while you're traveling or on-road is not only annoying but also extremely inconvenient.
Does it mean you forego or give up your favorite condiment? Thankfully no! A couple from Texas have come up with a unique solution that might just make adding sauces to our food mess-free and more delicious. "Once upon a time in a home kitchen not far away, a pair of avid home cooks turned a family recipe upside down. The result is a flavor-packed slice to supercharge your sandwich for the perfect bite, every time," the story goes. Read on to know more.
What is Slice of Sauce?
In simple words, Slice of Sauce is the answer to all the prayers from messy eaters across the world. Like the company's name suggests, a slice of sauce is your favorite sauce in the form of a slice, that can be put between layers of your favorite burger, sandwich and others. The slice, which looks like a thin piece of leather, is made from ripened tomato puree, distilled vinegar, kosher salt, cane sugar, onion and garlic powders and fruit pectin.
The product also claims to be allergen-free, as it doesn't have any wheat/ gluten, peanuts, dairy, tree nuts, egg, soy, fish or shellfish in any of its slices. The product's website suggests the various ways one can use this unique product.
"Slice of Sauce is delicious on sandwiches, burgers, wraps and more! We love it on grilled cheese, breakfast sandwiches and veggie burgers but imagine the possibilities! We like to layer it next to the bread, under our favorite protein for big flavor and no soggy buns. It's great for road trips, lunch boxes and backyard BBQs."
Who are the founders?
A Texas-based couple, Emily and Cole Williams are the brains behind Slice of Sauce. Emily, whose father is a restauranteur in Michigan, stumbled upon the idea while she was preparing a barbecue sauce. Instead of throwing away the unused parts of the vegetables that she used, Emily mixed them, ground them and dried them, which resulted in slices of spices and veggies.
With the couple's commitment to using simple ingredients to deliver intense flavors, they ended up creating Slice of Sauce. The website reveals the story behind the product: "Serendipity struck when founders Emily and Cole were tinkering in their home kitchen with a family recipe for BBQ sauce. Determined to use the mound of nutrient-rich veggies left behind, a new form of sauce was born, bringing with it a host of opportunities to enjoy the bold, concentrated flavor."
"Slice of Sauce has since evolved, but their roots remain true. With a commitment to real and simple ingredients, they bring to us delicious flavor for sandwiches, burgers and wraps, in a convenient slice that offers the perfect bite, every time," the site adds.
What is the cost?
Slice of Sauce is currently available in a pack of eight slices, of various flavors such as classic ketchup, spicy sriracha, Frank's red hot slices and secret aardvark slices. Each pack retails for $5.99. The website is currently running a limited-time special offer of a 10% discount on the purchase of three or more packs.
What are you waiting for? Layer it onto burgers, grilled cheese, or breakfast sammies for a big flavor and less mess. The package contains 8 slices.
Where can you buy it?
If you're wondering how it is made, "Slice of Sauce begins with ripe California tomatoes and combines less than 10 quality ingredients to mix up bold savory flavor. Then we use a unique process of careful dehydration and some special dance moves (just kidding, sort of) to create the perfect layer of your favorite condiment."
The Slice will rehydrate slightly when placed next to a protein, a piece of lettuce, or even a slice of cheese. If it's next to a warm burger, for example, it will melt a little but it will never drip. And remember: You'll want to avoid the microwave!
At the moment, Slice of Sauce products is only available for purchase from their website. You can order your own slices here.
