'Shark Tank': Why did ODR Skis' Kevin Greco get no deal from sharks despite them loving the product and him?
Kevin Greco, the owner of ODR Skis walked into the tank with the hopes of impressing the sharks with his impressive sales skills and raise a capital of $350K in exchange for a 10% stake in the company. Kevin described himself as a 'sales monster' and began candidly explaining about his product. He pointed out to sharks how ODR skis were one of a kind and were a complete gamechanger in the world of snow sports.
Kevin's pitch instantly piqued the interest of all the sharks as he seemed extremely passionate about the product and came across as driven. When the sharks asked him about since when ODR Skis have been in the market and their business model, Kevin casually mentioned that he joined the company in 2017, as a distributor in North America. He claimed that he invested $100K to start selling the products in North America and his impressive sales skills were soon recognized by the owners. The sharks stopped him and asked him to elaborate more about the company and his current role with the company. Kevin then clarifies that he currently owns the entire company and that the company was originally set up in 2016 in Norway.
The sharks were curious to hear from him about how he managed to acquire the company. The entrepreneur then shared how his impressive performance left the company owner with no choice but either to sell the company to him or risk having him as their competitor. The sharks, especially Mark Cuban and Lori Greiner were completely impressed with Kevin's journey and passion. Mark even went on to call him a 'perfect businessman' and Lori declared that she loved him as a person. Despite showering such high praises upon him, both Mark and Lori backed out stating that they didn't ski much or that they didn't have enough knowledge about the ski industry.
Daymond John admitted that the product Kevin brought to the table was spectacular, but raised concerns over the entrepreneur's loyalty. Daymond wondered what would stop Kevin from stabbing him in the back. Kevin tries explaining that he didn't stab the company's previous owner in the back, but took over the company as he was frustrated with the supply chain model and production process. But Kevin had already managed to raise concerns in the mind of the sharks. Kevin O'Leary aka Mr. Wonderful and Barbara Corcoran too expressed the same concerns and decided not to make any offer. Although Kevin left the tank empty-handed, he declared that his business would grow and the sharks would regret not investing in the company.
Fans, however, didn't seem to share the same feeling as Kevin and felt that the sharks did the right thing by not making an offer to him. A fan tweeted, "I like the product but this guy is a snake. #SharkTank." Another fan wrote, "#ODR Daymond makes a good point tell them why you wouldn't screw a shark over. Okay great response. It is a great product #SharkTank." Daniel Lubetzky, a former guest shark too expressed his concerns over Kevin's ambitions. He tweeted, "Kevin from ODR seems quite driven. A bit too driven? Did he force the founders out? His narrative gave me some concerns #SharkTank."
