‘Shark Tank’ Season 12: Do you need Pooch Paper to pick up dog poop? Fans feel Kevin O'Leary made a dud deal
Is collecting dog poop a problem for you? A new pitch on ‘Shark Tank’ offers an eco-friendly solution in the second episode of Season 12. Founded by Tracy Rosensteel, the objective of Pooch Paper is to come up with a non-plastic version of the classic doggie waste bag.
Made in the USA, Pooch Paper is a recycled, non-chlorine bleached paper alternative and according to the website, the sheets are "100% biodegradable, 100% compostable and are manufactured using renewable energy." It also reads: "Our grease-resistant coating is made during the pulp drying process to ensure your doggie’s doodie remains inside the paper and not on your hand!"
What is Pooch Paper?
"Research suggests over 500 million single-use plastic dog waste bags are thrown into landfills each year in the US alone. These bags add to the global warming issues related to methane gas emissions and micro-plastic pollution," the official website reads. It further adds that Pooch Paper can help divert some of the massive amounts of plastics headed straight to the landfill after cleaning up canine droppings.
Wondering where is it manufactured? The website reads: "Our paper, packaging and fulfillment processes are all sourced and conducted in the USA. Our paper is sourced from a paper mill located in Maine. The vast majority of our pulp is sourced from the U.S. as well as Canada (with traces from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, England and Spain). The majority of our fibers are composed of balsam fir, white spruce, red spruce and black spruce."
Who got the deal?
Kevin O'Leary struck the deal and then posted on Twitter: "You know what they say... one man’s doo doo is another man’s royalty deal!! Congrats Pooch Paper!" Not just that, he also posted, "'An estimated 12 million pounds of dog poop produced EVERY YEAR in America.' Who knew!? #sharktank."

However, many Twitter users were quite skeptical about the product. "I LOVE this idea as I feel guilty using plastic bags for my dogs' poop. However, I'd prefer a bag that I can totally put around my hand rather than a flat piece of paper. #sharktank," one said and another posted, "@kevinolearytv I made a Twitter account just to tell you to not do the dog poop deal! You have to be able to tie the bag, and even with a royalty, you won’t sell enough units to get your money back. The deal is doodoo." A third joked, "I already pick up dog poop with paper its called my bills right fellas #sharktank."
