It's always exciting to see the new products on ‘Shark Tank’ and this time, it is the Mighty Carver — a unique electric knife invented by a Florida couple! As per a press release, creative marketing agency energyhill, based in Tampa, Florida, led the marketing, design, and brand of the Mighty Carver to position the business for retail success since its inception in 2017.

Kim and Lance Burney, founders of the Mighty Carver, will appear on Season 12, Episode 4 of the Emmy Award-winning show where entrepreneurs pitch their products to business moguls. On Twitter, the product's official bio reads: “Think of an electric carving knife. Now imagine if it was shaped like a chainsaw. That’s the Mighty Carver.” In the episode, the couple “have an entertaining approach to the tried-and-true carving knives often used during the holidays”.

What is the Mighty Carver?

Ranked one of the best sellers in “Carving Knives” and “Electric Knives” on Amazon, the story is that the Mighty Carver was created at a family gathering for the holidays. The official website reads: “The Mighty Carver was created to make carving the Thanksgiving turkey — and other foods — an experience your family will remember. The Mighty Carver has done that for our family, helping us pass on Grandpa’s tradition of carving the turkey.”

It also reads: “The Mighty Carver doesn’t just look like a chainsaw. It packs the power of one too. We spent months and rounds of models to find one that works better than any carving knife on the market,” adding, “Our electric carving knife is light, so anyone can use it. The Mighty Carver has two ergonomic handles and it’s fitted with two stainless steel blades, so you’re in control. Lastly, it’s easy to take apart to wash and stow away. Now, you can carve your turkey like a pro, and make it look easy.”

Who are the founders?

Founded by Kim and Lance Burney, the product idea came from a family get-together in a small cabin near Missoula, Montana. “At Thanksgiving dinner as far back as I can remember, I would get out the electric carving knife for Grandpa. He would carefully carve the turkey to serve the family,” the website reads. The couple is in their 50s and also own a power line safety company called Sigalarm in Sanford. The Floridian duo amalgamated their names as well as the love of tools with Thanksgiving for founding the company Lankim LLC.

“This is a wonderful tradition shared by most Americans. But Grandpa’s been gone for a year now and at the last Thanksgiving dinner I asked, ‘Hey, who wants to carve the turkey this year?’ No one looked up, no one said a word. I thought to myself, come on you guys, you all love power tools, what is the problem? Then it hit me. ‘If this were a chainsaw, you boys would be fighting over who gets to carve the turkey.’”

What is the cost?

Not only does it look like a chainsaw, but it also “packs the power” of a chainsaw. It was designed over a matter of months to ensure that it “works better than any carving knife on the market.” The website also reads: “With dual stainless steel blades and a carving fork, the Mighty Carver can be used on almost any food: ham, cheese, fruit, vegetables, bread, and so much more!”

Shipped from Florida, the product is priced at $84.99 and you can purchase it here. The electric knife can also smoothly slice pineapple, pumpkin, papaya, and ham. During the holiday season in the last part of 2019, Amazon ranked it at number #5 in the list of the best carving knives. It was also on the 5th spot as one of the best Electric Knives in 2020.

Who will crack the deal?

The Sharks on the episode are: Barbara Corcoran, Mark Cuban, Lori Greiner, Daymond John, and Kevin O'Leary. The press release notes: To give them the best chance to secure an investment from one of the Sharks, energyhill prepared the Mighty Carver stakeholders for their pitch on Shark Tank. The marketing team developed accurate business reports leading up to the pitch, including financial forecasts, customer acquisition costs, sales projections, and more.

“Everyone always says, 'know your numbers,' when you mention going before the sharks," Kim Burney said. "We were able to rely on energyhill to provide pertinent business information so we were prepared for the pitch.”

‘Shark Tank’ Season 12 Episode 4 will premiere on November 6, 2020 at 10 pm ET on ABC. Episodes can also be viewed the next day on demand and on Hulu.
