'Shaq Life': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about TNT's docuseries on the NBA legend

Its a dream come true for basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal fans who hoped they'd see him on the small screen. The former Cleveland Cavaliers center will be seen in 'Shaq Life', a TNT docuseries that sees the NBA star and his friends join viewers in watching his favorite films and sharing his thoughts on them. 

According to Deadline, the superstar and his pals will also be seen competing in games and dance along to a DJ session by Shaq. Here's what we know ahead of the series premiere:

Release date

'Shaq Life' will premiere with two episodes on April 9 at 9/8c on TNT. 

Plot

The docuseries will be narrated by Samuel L Jackson and alongside seeing him have fun with his friends, it also gives a look at Shaq's life off the basketball court. 

TNT's official synopsis reads: "Get to know Shaq as he explores his passions off the court: Spending a busy summer touring the world to establish himself as a DJ; navigating his partnership with a controversial franchise; training with UFC fighters for his first-ever MMA grappling match; raising six children and expanding his legacy. It’s time for fans to meet the man behind the legend — a man with a legendary sense of humor, an enormous heart and endless determination. Shaquille O’Neal is the ultimate renaissance man."

The docuseries 'Shaq Life' is produced by Steve Michaels, Jodi Flynn and James Macnab of The Content Group. 'Dale' director and Emmy winner, Rory Karpf serves as the showrunner.

The minute-long trailer gives a glimpse of Shaq's life that includes a look at his family. The footage of him training with UFC fighters and his time as a DJ are all showcased as well as his voiceover talks about how he got to where he was in life. The clip also sees the funny side of Shaq when he hangs out with his friends and family.

In his statement, Shaq said, "I can’t wait for viewers to join me on Thursday nights,” O’Neal said in a statement. “I hope ShaqNight will deliver laughs, fun, and entertainment into people’s homes at a time when we need it most." TNT General Manager, Brett Weitz, in a statement said, "Now more than ever, families are seeking out ways to connect, find comfort and be entertained. In these challenging times, our aim is to go the extra mile to provide uplifting programming and Shaq, with his trademark extraordinary energy and enthusiasm, jumped at the chance to welcome viewers into his life"
