NEWYORK CITY, NEWYORK: Sha'Carri Richardson, the American track and field sprinter, has come to the defense of Noah Lyles following his bold statement criticizing the NBA.

Lyles previously expressed his disagreement with NBA players labeling themselves as world champions.

What did Sha'Carri Richardson say?

Sha'Carri Richardson recently expressed her support for Noah Lyles' perspective through her social media accounts. She pointed out that the NBA does have players hailing from different countries, but they do not engage in competition against other nations. Richardson stood with Lyles on the matter, underlining the importance of competing on a global scale to earn the title of world champion.

"I’m standing with Noah on this one !! @LylesNoah the organization have players from different countries but do they compete against different countries. You have to go against the world in order to be a world champion!!" she tweeted.

Lyles questioned the validity of NBA players

Lyles, who secured three gold medals at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, including victories in the men's 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay events, voiced his viewpoint during a press conference after his races.

Lyles questioned the validity of NBA players calling themselves world champions and highlighted the disparity between their claim and the global representation in the athletics championships.

He said, “World Champion of what? You know the thing that hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA finals and they have world championships on their head, world championships of what? The United States? Don't get me wrong, I love the US at the time but that ain't the world, that is not the world, We are the world, we have almost every country out here fighting, thriving putting on their flag to show that they are represented. There ain't no flags in the NBA".
