Who is John Ronald Brown? Sick child abuser claims victim is '95 per cent RESPONSIBLE' for crime

A sex offender who sexually assaulted a teenager on a cruise ship claimed the boy is “95 percent responsible” for what happened. John Ronald Brown, who is 49 years old, alleged that his teenage victim is largely to blame for the crime he admitted to committing, forensic psychiatrist Professor David Greenberg told the ACT (Australian Capital Territory) Supreme Court on Monday, July 18. Brown pleaded guilty last year to maintaining a sexual relationship with a child. Brown was friends with the teenage boy’s parents at the time.
Despite his young victim telling him to stop, the man pursued his friend’s son before his behavior was revealed aboard a cruise ship. It was claimed that he sexually harassed the boy in Canberra at a party and then inappropriately touched him during an international cruise in late 2019 and early 2020. His sentencing has dragged out over many months after it was adjourned in February when psychologist Douglas Boer submitted to the court claiming that Brown was not guilty due to mental impairment, major depressive disorder, and suffering from an alcohol use disorder.

According to the Canberra Times, Professor Greenberg on Monday said he disagreed with Professor Boer's opinion that Brown was suffering from a major depressive disorder. He agreed Brown had an alcohol use disorder but noted the illness does not cause a person to abuse children. Court documents say he became friends with his victim’s family before committing his crimes in 2019 when the boy was under 16 years old. Later, Brown exposed his genitals to the boy and demanded oral sex. The boy told him “no”. Several nights later, Brown asked the boy to come into a bedroom and made him perform oral sex.
Chief Crown prosecutor Anthony Williamson subsequently read out five victim impact statements, written by the boy who was abused and members of his family. The boy stated Brown was once a person he respected, admired, and even looked up to but said in his statement, "he broke my trust... I cannot express how much this has had an impact on me and my family". "To be told, 'Don't worry about your mum and dad, it's friends' fun, it's our secret', made me sick".
