Dennis Nilsen managed to keep a low profile and carry on with his murders but an error in his judgment led to people finding out about his dark secret. Nilsen stayed in the UK and lived alone in his flat. While he continued with his normal life, it is believed that he started killing people because he loved the thrill that came with it.

Nilsen looked for men that he could bring home to spend some time together. When he thought he found someone who would come back home with him, he would invite them over. After spending some time with them, he would strangle them. To make sure they were dead, he would plunge their head in water.

While one would assume Nilsen got rid of the bodies immediately, he would often keep them for a while. Nilsen would also have sex with the dead bodies at times but most of the time he kept them to fill the loneliness he had and to give him company. Once he felt it was time to dispose of the body, he would chop it, burn it, boil it or bury it.

He would also hide the bodies under the floorboard. However, his crimes did not last long as people in his apartment complained about clogged pipes. The apartment caretaker decided to call the plumbers to look into the matter. When the drains were checked, the plumber found small pieces of bones along with some flesh.

At the same time, a woman found the remains of a human when her dog spotted a bone. These two instances led to police pointing all the signs towards Nilsen being the killer. When the police visited his house, they were able to find the remains of other dead bodies and he was arrested. Nilsen was taken into custody and was asked about the number of victims he had. He stated that he was not keeping a count of how many there were and "it was a bit of a jumble".

It was later confirmed that Nilsen had killed 12 young men. Nilsen was given life imprisonment and died in 2018 due to health conditions. 'Serial Psyche' airs on Fridays at 8 pm ET on Reelz.
