John Kennedy claims 'foolish' Nancy Pelosi tried eating Tide pods, Internet says that explains her 'mental state'

Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) took a jab at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi by saying that he thought she was so foolish that she must have participated in the 'Tide Pod Challenge' when it went viral a few years ago. 

Kennedy made the scathing comments during an interview with Fox News's Sean Hannity on Tuesday night, September 15, alluding to the dangerous trend that temporarily created a viral sensation among teens years ago. "Sean, with respect, there are times, particularly recently, when I think Speaker Pelosi is one of those people who tried Tide pods," Kennedy said. "I want you to think about what she proposed today, this is what the speaker is threatening to do."

The trend in question started back in 2015 when The Onion, an American satirical news website, published a story about how the blue and red detergent pods looked like sweets. Two years later, a pranks website College Humor uploaded a YouTube video called 'Don't Eat The Laundry Pods.' Youngsters began biting into the colorful pods and puking their guts out in videos they began posting on social media. As a result, several doctors, parents, and even manufacturers began warning teens against consuming highly poisonous laundry liquid that posed serious health risks if ingested. 

Kennedy's comments came before Pelosi and her fellow Democratic House representatives were expected to vote on a $1.5 trillion stimulus relief bill proposed by a bipartisan group of lawmakers. She is expected to vote against the bill. "She is threatening to keep the House Democrats in session and prevent them from going home and running for reelection unless the Senate Republicans agree to the speaker's $3.4 trillion coronavirus bill," Kennedy added. "On the one hand we can vote for Pelosi's $3.4 trillion bill or we can agree to allow her to put the House Democratic majority into jeopardy. That's just bone-deep down to the marrow foolish."

The senator's comments led a number of people to react on social media. Many of them agreed with Kennedy's comments. "I thought the same thing earlier when I saw it! I wonder how many facelifts Pelosi has had! Her eyebrows are on her forehead! Senator Kennedy was right... She's been into the Tide Pods!" one wrote, while another said, "@SenJohnKennedy you are the Will Rogers of our time! You have the best one liners! 'Senator Kennedy Says Sometimes He Thinks Nancy Pelosi Has Eaten Tide Pods’” A third wrote, "Yipee Nancy Pelosi eats tide pods." A fourth said, "Lmao... Senator Kennedy: Speaker Pelosi is one of those people who Tried Tide Pods. Based on her apparent mental state, he's probably right!!"

However, there were those who thought Kennedy has had no grounds mocking Pelosi when the leader of their own party often made incoherent sentences. "To clarify, Donald Trump can’t put a full sentence together. Trump, Jr. looks glassy-eyed when he talks. Don’t put Nancy Pelosi and Tide Pods in the same sentence. You have no room to talk, you hypocrite," one wrote. Another commented, "He's so ridiculous he doesn't even know the consumption of tide pods can make one seriously ill, not stupid or crazy, although to suggest someone of Pelosi's character actually 'tried' them is stupid and crazy"
