The 49-year-old reportedly chose the first day of Black History Month to launch his campaign, highlighting his own heritage.
United States Senator Cory Booker announced his bid for 2020 presidency on Friday as the New Jersey Democrat called on a deeply polarized nation to unite around a "common purpose."
Booker, with the announcement, has joined three of his fellow Democratic senators in the primary presidential run: Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Kamala Harris of California and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York.
The 49-year-old reportedly chose the first day of Black History Month to launch his campaign, highlighting his own heritage. "I'm Cory Booker and I'm running for president of the United States of America," the senator said in a video.
