South Carolina Senate Debate: Jaime Harrison brings plastic shield, Internet calls Lindsey Graham 'Covidiot'

The battle for South Carolina’s US senate elections grabbed attention due to a plastic shield that was brought in by Democratic candidate Jaime Harrison in the debate to wade off the fear of Covid-19 spread. The debate was between Democratic challenger Harrison and Republican party politician Lindsey Graham and was the first of the three senate debates between the two leaders for the South Carolina senate seat that was held on Saturday, October 3.

More than what was talked in the debate, it was the protective plastic shield also called as “Plexiglas Divider” brought by Harrison that drew attention. The purpose of bringing this transparent shield was to prevent the spread of Covid-19 that has spread like wildfire in the White House administration already. The photos of the debate that splashed on social media show the plastic shield was kept on the left-hand side of Harrison while he was standing on his podium against Graham.

However, Graham did not have any shield. Neither of the candidates were wearing masks during the debate while speaking as visible from the visuals. No sooner than the images from the debate splashed on social media, people came up with bizarre remarks. Some alleged Graham as a potential superspreader and Covidiot as he belongs to the Republican Party that has seen many cases coming up positive for Covid-19. Many praised Harrison for the move of bringing the protective shield.

A user wrote, “Jaime Harrison brought his Plexiglas divider to his Senate debate with Lindsay Graham.” Some bashed Graham, “Jaime has a plexiglass shield because Lindsey is a pure-T Covidiot. I can’t believe the nonsense that’s spewing out of him.” Another concurred, “Here's a screenshot so you can see the Plexiglas shield Jamie Harrison is behind, to protect him from a potential SuperSpreader Lindsey Graham.”

Television host Sunny Hostin wrote that other Democrat candidates must follow the suit. “Jaime Harrison has a full plexiglass plate that he brought to this debate himself to protect against a Senator who should likely be in quarantine. Kamala’s team - pls take note.” A user wrote in favor of Harrison, “Jaime Harrison is CRUSHING Lindsey Graham in this debate, with Lindsey's own hypocritical words. It's a thing of beauty.” Another quipped: "Jamie Harrison won the debate."

“Jamie Harrison won the debate before it even started by bringing his plexiglass shield to protect himself from Lindsey Graham. What a freaking legend,” read a tweet. Actress Sarah Thyre wrote, “This debate is great. Harrison Jaime brought a plastic shield to protect himself from superspreader party Lindsey GrahamSC and Lindsey keeps namechecking the one black person he knows Tim ScottSC, bless his heart. Win it, Jaime!”
