Senator Lisa Murkowski to back Trump's Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett, Internet calls her 'traitor'
Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski said on Saturday, October 24, that she will vote to confirm Amy Coney Barrett's position at the Supreme Court, supporting President Donald Trump’s nominee before the conservative judge faces a final vote, expected on Monday, October 26.
On Saturday, in a statement, she said, "I voted no on the motion to proceed yesterday because I have stated on multiple occasions since 2016 I do not believe the Senate should take up a Supreme Court nomination this close to a presidential election. I have been clear in that position throughout this process. With that vote, my view did not prevail, so the question now facing the Senate is whether Judge Amy Coney Barrett is qualified to serve on the highest court in the land. My constitutional responsibility is to now look beyond process and to vote based on a solid evaluation of her qualifications and fitness of judicial temperament."
She added, “I have reviewed Judge Barrett’s confirmation hearing and her writings. I also had a lengthy discussion with her this week to delve further into her record and views of jurisprudence. It is clear that she is qualified by any objective standard and has received the highest possible rating from the American Bar Association. She has demonstrated a strong command of the law, intellect, discipline, and, ultimately, the capability to hold the position of Associate Justice of the Supreme Court."
Murkowski even posted her statement on Twitter and wrote, "Today, I issued the following statement on the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to serve as the next Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court."

As soon as her comments came to light on social media, people started reacting to it. Writer Nell Scovell questioned Murkowski's move and said, "Amy Coney Barrett has 3 years of experience as a judge. She lied on her paperwork, failing to disclose speeches she gave that were anti-choice. She refused to answer questions. How is she qualified to serve a LIFETIME on the Supreme Court?" While another complained about a "betrayal" from Murkowski and wrote, "Lisa Murkowski's term ends in 2023. Let's not forget her betrayal. How she voted to confirm a judge that will vote to take away Healthcare from millions of Americans and will diminish the rights of women. I will not forget. We all need to fight to vote her out when the time comes."

Slamming her decision another one complained, "No Senator has done more to trash indigenous healthcare in Alaska than Lisa Murkowski with this vote." One angry Netizen opined, "Traitor. You should be ashamed of yourself. You too will lose your seat eventually and your name will also go down in history as a traitor and enabler of the biggest criminal enterprise in the WH."

Pointing out at her extreme views on women's rights, Journalist E Jean Carroll said, "Senator, you are a traitor to your sex." While actress Elizabeth Perkins wrote, "Women will remember this at the polls. You have done us all a huge disservice. Terribly disappointing."

More and more people started slamming the 63-year-old senator. One user wrote, "Thanks for taking away women’s rights to control their own bodies, and voting rights too. Who knows, maybe even gay marriage rights! I’m guessing you will not run in 2022 and will have a cushy lobbying gig." Another quipped, "Or she made a deal with Trump to dismantle RBG’s legacy for his endorsement in 2 years. She sold her soul, no matter what."
