'Selena + Chef': Selena Gomez nearly sets her kitchen on fire while crafting vegetable buffet with Nancy Silverton

The parchment paper the asparagus was wrapped in went up in flames, but that did not stop the singer from dishing out a lavish spread

As celebrated chef Nancy Silverton guided Selena Gomez to put together the perfect, most colorful vegetable buffet, her kitchen almost broke down and caught on fire, triggering extreme panic among the singer and her friends Liz Golden and Raquelle Stevens. But, the situation was fixed and brought under control by Selena's grandfather.

The ovens were not functional and the gas line conked out, which led to Selena stressing if she would ever be able to cook the meal. But the crisis was successfully averted and she was back on track in no time. As Nancy moved on from roasted carrots to asparagus, Selena struggled to get everything in order.

When the show began, Selena mentioned that she was getting into the kitchen for the first time and has very little experience in cooking. Between then and now, she has whipped up a wide variety of dishes and that too under the able guidance of storied chefs. One can see why putting together a rather large buffet could prove to be exhausting for her.

The leeks fell out of the baking tray while she tried to take it out from the oven; the asparagus and the parchment that it was wrapped in were in flames. It was a fire hazard. However, Selena and her friends were quick to douse it all down.

Despite all the fun and games, end of the day, Selena had prepared one of the most nutritious buffets there could ever be. She had on her table braised leeks, sauteed carrots, roasted dates, charred bell peppers and a host of other dishes that added to the colorful spread. Clearly, barring the one fire incident, Selena can pat herself on the back for learning some of the most-loved and most-served dishes of Nancy and the other chefs who have made appearances on the show.

"You need to cook every day," Selena said during HBO’s virtual CTAM session and added: "The more you cook, the better you're going to get at it." Catch all the new episodes of 'Selena + Chef' on HBO Max now. The show has five more episodes to go.
