'Selena + Chef' is not just another celebrity's culinary journey or an effort to put something interesting for the viewers to binge on. Sure, it is made with the purpose of entertaining billions of Selena Gomez fans but it's also done for a cause. Each of the chefs will be donating $10,000 to charities of their choice.

Antonia Lofaso, who appeared in episode 2 of the HBO Max-backed show, will be making a donation towards Beit T'Shuvah, a residential addiction treatment center. Selena was particularly invested in the cause and seemed glad that Antonia was working on something so thoughtful and close to her heart.

"First off, I think that's incredible. I also have bipolar so I deal with a lot of mental health issues," Selena said and added that "several" of her family members are also addicts and "so you know it's something that I am extremely passionate about as well." She also pointed out how there's a lot of "shame and guilt" involved when tackling such issues.

However, this wasn't the first time that the 'Rare' singer was talking openly about it. A few weeks after the world hit the pause button life to survive the pandemic, lock themselves in their house for fear of contracting the deadly infection, Miley Cyrus and Selena got on a live Instagram chat, during which she revealed that she had visited a hospital in the US to understand what was causing her the stress.

After discussing at length, it was confirmed that she was bipolar. "I never had full awareness or answers about this condition. When I have more information, it actually helps me, it doesn't scare me once I know it," the star added.

Even though something as big as this would occupy a lot of headspace but Selena's keeping busy with her cosmetics line, Rare Beauty, which will hit the markets on September 3 at Sephora. The line will begin with an impressive 48 shades of foundation and concealer. On the brand's Instagram handle, Selena promises that the line will something that one can "enjoy."

Catch episodes 1 - 3 of 'Selena + Chef' on HBO Max.
