Second Presidential Debate canceled: Is decision in Biden's favor? Here's why Internet feels CPD's protecting him

Is the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) biased towards Biden? This is the question that boggles the Internet after CPD officially canceled the second debate between President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden that was scheduled for October 15. "It is now apparent there will be no debate on October 15, and the CPD will turn its attention to preparations for the final presidential debate scheduled for October 22," the commission said in a statement Friday, October 9 as reported by MSN.

The decision of the CPD comes after the commission announced the debate would take place “virtually” because Trump had contracted Covid-19. Trump balked at holding the debate in that format, and Biden scheduled a town hall with ABC News for that night once Trump said he would not participate, Associated Press reported. This is seen as the major reason for canceling the second debate. Now a final debate is scheduled for October 22 and will take place at Belmont University in Nashville, the commission said.

Earlier, Trump's campaign had argued that the second debate should have continued in person."There is no medical reason to stop the October 15 debate in Miami from proceeding as scheduled, since the President will be healthy and ready to debate," Trump campaign spokesperson Tim Murtaugh said as reported in The Hill. "There is also no reason there shouldn't be the three total presidential debates as Joe Biden had originally agreed." Trump’s campaign further said that the commission was being biased towards Biden."It's time for the biased commission to stop protecting Biden and preventing voters from hearing from the two candidates for president," Murtaugh added. He said the campaign would be open to debating Biden "without the commission's interference."

It seems like the Trump campaign's voice of CPD being inclined towards Biden has struck a chord with the Internet. People allege that the commission has changed rules at the last moment to favor Biden and that the CPD selects moderators that are Democrats. Some feel CPD is protecting Biden from the Covid-19 threat and a face-off with Trump. So far, Chris Wallace from Fox News and Steve Scully from C-SPAN Networks has been named as moderators for the first and second debates respectively. The third presidential debate is to see NBC’s Kristen Welker who is also a White House correspondent.

A user wrote in favor of Trump and against CPD, “President Trump is not a coward! Debates are and should be 'in person'! Get over your prejudices and see what it is. The far-left Presidential Debate Commission is the one that canceled debate by changing the rules to favor Biden. Don't fool yourself, Democrats are liars!” Another wrote on CPD’s selection criteria of moderators, “So true! It is so obvious by the way they select moderators that are Democrats. A more fair way would be to have a Democrat and Republican as moderators. Clearly the Commission is rigging the deck in favor of Biden and Harris, both of which need help!”

Some felt CPD is favoring Biden by changing rules, “Cancelled because the debate commission tried to change the rules to favor Biden! They never even contacted the Trump campaign. If Americans can’t see the obvious biased and deep state in this election they are ignorant and blind. Biden would those teleprompters & coaches.” Another wrote on CPD and alleged that it is biased for constantly changing its decisions, “Never underestimate just how stupid liberals believe Americans are! The commission and CSPAN tried to put a plant into the debates to protect Biden and got caught! That didn't work out, so they tried to give Biden a teleprompter debate - Trump wouldn't bite! So it canceled! LOL.”

“Not gonna lie, I feel like this was done on behalf of Joe Biden. The Debate Commission should be neutral and should’ve worked with both sides to come up with an answer agreeable to both! I’m very disappointed but not surprised. Biden’s been alleging this all along.” A user wrote, “The Debate Commission is trying to protect Joe Biden from getting Covid-19 by making the debate virtual. they know the virus is contagious. How smart.” Another user wrote, “There will not be another debate. There was always only going to be one debate. They're trying their hardest to protect Biden.”
