The mysterious appearance of a dead humpback whale in the middle of the Amazon forest has left scientists wondering how the massive aquatic mammal ended up miles away from its natural habitat.

Scientists from across the world rushed to the region after videos of a flock of vultures surrounding the decomposing whale appeared online. The carcass of the mammal is estimated to be 11m long and 6m wide, according to the New Zealand Herald.
