Saudi refugee teen who fled from 'strict family' to Thailand says Australia has granted asylum to her
The teenager said she had escaped her family while they were vacationing in Kuwait and was caught at the Bangkok airport
A teenager from Saudi Arabia, who after renouncing Islam fled to Thailand fearing her family would kill her, on Thursday claimed that she has been granted asylum in Australia.
"I am so happy, I will start a new life," 18-year-old Rahaf Mohammed al-Qunun said in her latest statement. The teenager made headlines earlier this week after she began tweeting from Bangkok airport's transit area, asking for help.
Rahaf, in a series of tweets, pleaded for help saying authorities in Bangkok were planning to send her back to Saudi Arabia.
