The autopsy found several bruises on the child
According to officials, the parents told law enforcement and paramedics that the boy hit his head on a hard floor after he fell out of a recliner and then suffered a seizure. Before the six-year-old was transported to a hospital, paramedics informed deputies about his grim prognosis, and a day later, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. An autopsy performed on the child revealed several bruises in different stages of healing. According to the toxicology results, he died from an overdose of Benadryl.
The child lived in filthy conditions
Officials further mentioned that the six-year-old boy had been put in filthy conditions. Child abuse referrals were made to the Department of Social Services in South Carolina. However, it was unclear when the referrals were made and how it was handled at the time. Authorities stated that "It was determined that probable cause existed to charge both parents with the death of their child," and that the 32-year-old woman admitted to giving the child Benadryl as he was 'hyperactive'.
While Christopher was granted a bond amount of $10,000, Sarah was denied the bond. She reportedly signed over guardianship to her husband during the federal prison time she was serving in West Virginia, reported Fox Carolina. However, further details about the guardianship given to Christopher and their relationship remain unclear.
