Is there a more enchanting phrase than "Midsummer Ball", evoking both joyful romance and tragedy, depending on the permutations and combinations of love found and lost?

After Sidney Parker (Theo James) makes his "better self" speech to Miss Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams) and tells her that Mrs. Eliza Campion (Ruth Kearney), her rival, has left town, they are now free to be with each other.

In the trailer for the finale episode, you see Sidney with a rare smile, asking Charlotte if she needed anything from town. Charlotte, not to miss an opportunity, asks him to accompany her to town for the "dress fitting" for her outfit for the ball. But it is obvious that both have something far less mundane on their minds than a dress as they face each other, volumes unspoken, and stare at each other on a clifftop.

Romance is also blooming between Esther Denham and Lord Babington. His patience is finally paying off since Esther cracks a wide smile and teases him on a carriage ride across the beach as she takes the reins of the horses from him.

The lords and ladies gather for the ball that Tom Parker (Kris Marshall) is delighted to host as London's elite descend on Sanditon. Alas, for Young Stringer, who is also infatuated by Charlotte, it is a sad night.

But just to be sure, he gently probes the state of affairs between Charlotte and Sidney. The clifftop rendezvous seems to have worked out because Charlotte replies she has a reason to stay back in Sanditon even as Sidney looks on at her from afar with fondness.

However, the events of the episode might not be as rosy as the trailer portrays because the official synopsis reads that on "the night of the Midsummer Ball, romance, jealousy, and betrayal fill the air."

It also adds that "devastating events conspire to leave Charlotte and the Parker family facing difficult choices". So even though Sidney and Charlotte are finally on the same page, events might conspire to make their love story less than ideal. We can only wait to find out.

‘Sanditon’ airs on Sunday at 9 pm ET on February 23.
