'Sanctuary King' JB Pritzker wants Biden to appoint a 'Border Czar', Internet wonders if Kamala Harris has resigned
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Illinois governor JB Pritzker recently fired off a letter to President Joe Biden, urging him to appoint a ‘Border Czar’ to handle the migrant crisis in his state.
In a letter to the 80-year-old president, Pritzker demanded federal assistance, stating that the inflow of migrants has created an “untenable situation for Illinois.”
Since last August, more than 17,000 migrants have entered Chicago, mainly from Texas, where Governor Greg Abbott continues to oppose the Biden administration's immigration policy by sending people to so-called sanctuary cities.
Pritzker stated that his state has spent more than $330 million to help the migrants, in addition to the more than $100 million contribution from the city of Chicago, but is still unable to handle the surge.
What did JB Pritzker say in his letter to Joe Biden?
In the letter, Pritzker claims that the crisis in his state is "untenable" due to a "lack of intervention and coordination at the border" and demands that he stop blaming Democratic Party leaders for the situation.
“Though we have found temporary housing in existing buildings for a majority of the refugees, we are challenged to find additional housing for the continuous flow of people who keep coming and are now forced to sleep in police stations and on sidewalks,” Pritzker wrote.
“This situation is untenable and requires your immediate help beyond the coming work authorization for some of the asylum seekers.”
“There is much more that can and must be done on a federal level to address a national humanitarian crisis that is currently being shouldered by state and local governments without support,” he continued.
What demands did JB Pritzker make to stop the migrant crisis?
Pritzker urged the White House to appoint a point person to serve as a go-between to reduce red tape and asked the federal government to better control where migrants were relocated.
Pritzker's letter to Biden includes a number of suggestions for how the federal government might assist states that are suffering from the migrant crisis.
"Unfortunately, the welcome and aid Illinois has been providing to these asylum seekers has not been matched with support by the federal government," he stated.
“First and foremost, I recommend that there be one person in the federal government who works directly for you in the White House who can lead the oversight of our nation’s efforts at the border,” Pritzker wrote, according to the NY Post.
“Right now, we have too many different federal department contacts, who are uncoordinated with one another that handle various programs related to this humanitarian crisis.”
“A single office with an identified leader must be assigned to work for the cities and states across the silos of government to manage the challenges we all face,” he continued.
In addition, Pritzker suggested that the Biden administration play a "much more active role" in the transportation of migrants out of border states, contending that it is unjust for a state like Texas to have the freedom to decide which places it sends people by bus.
Give credit when credit is due. I applaud Illinois Gov @JBPritzker for his letter to the WH regarding the migrant crisis and this applause is coming from someone who disagrees with most of his policies and positions. Well done. pic.twitter.com/HnOBwCgcJC
