San Francisco pizza eatery fires employee after he turns down cops saying they 'are not welcome'
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: A renowned San Francisco pizza restaurant reportedly fired an employee after several police officers complained about not being welcomed at the fast food eatery. The incident took place on Sunday, January 29, when several hungry SFPD officers went into their favorite eatery, Pizza Squared, but instead of servicing them, an employee told them that they "were not welcome in the restaurant."
San Francisco Police Officers Association President Tracy McCray talked about the incident on Twitter, where the union released a statement, noting that “a @pizzasquaredsf employee told several of our officers that they were not welcome in the restaurant. The SFPOA notified the owners of the restaurant of the shameful and hateful actions of one of their employees.” The statement added, “We appreciate the owner’s swift apology, praise for the hard work our officers do, and the owners' commitment to meeting with the affected officers.”

McCray told Fox News that his officers have dined at the restaurant and have never endured any mistreatment in past. "We were pleased to receive an immediate response from the owners, including a sincere apology for their employee’s actions and a commitment to meet with the affected officers and make this unfortunate situation right," he said.
Black Detroit officers denied service at restaurant
In a similar incident, a group of black police officers was denied service at a Detroit restaurant because of their race. The incident happened in June 2022 when 11 African-American off-duty officers went to a restaurant in Novi, Michigan, after their shift. The officers said they waited several minutes to be seated but the Bar Louie manager later came out and told them the kitchen was closed, Yahoo news reported.
After coming out of the eatery, the officers asked another black man to go in and try to get service. As per the officers, the man was treated nicely and was even served nice food. The hungry officers said they still felt that the restaurant had racially discriminated against them. “One single Black guy isn’t a problem,” officer Johnathon Gardner told Fox 2. He added, “As a group, I feel we were judged. They looked at us, and they judged us as a group, (like) ‘This is too many Black people coming into our establishment, this is too big of a concern, they’re going to cause a scene or a ruckus.’ And I feel like they judged us.”
