'Jersey Shore': Sammi 'Sweetheart' Giancola chooses to skip Mike Sorrentino's wedding
The former 'Jersey Shore' star gave the wedding a miss because of the cameras and sent a 'sweet gift' to the newlyweds instead
'Jersey Shore' star Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino tied the knot with his childhood sweetheart Lauren Pesce on November 1. While most of the 'Jersey Shore' cast was present for the ceremony, Sammi 'Sweetheart' Giancola was absent.
Despite not attending the wedding, Giancola did send her best wishes to the couple in her own way. Us Weekly reports that she sent a "sweet gift" to the couple. The 36-year-old Sorrentino commented on her absence saying, "Oh, no, she wasn’t there, she was invited [and] she sent a gift, a very heartfelt, sweet gift."
'The Situation' also spoke about the possible reason Sammi chose not to come. "The cameras were there, she opted not to come," he said. Other 'Jersey Shore' cast members who were in attendance included Jenni 'JWoww' Farley, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, Deena Nicole Cortese, Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi, Paul 'DJ Pauly D' DelVecchio, Vinny Guadagnino and Angelina Pivarnick.
Sorrentino and Pesce got married at Pompton Plains, New Jersey in the Legacy Castle right before the reality star serves an eight-month prison sentence beginning in early 2019 for tax evasion. The couple got engaged on Valentine's Day, the proposal was aired during season 2 of 'Jersey Shore: Family Vacation'.
Giancolo also chose to not star in 'Jersey Shore: Family Vacation' because of the same reason she stayed away from Sorrentino's wedding — she did not want any camera attention, reports Bustle. Polizzi, 30, spoke about why Giancolo won't star in the much-anticipated premiere of 'Family Reunion'. "Everyone’s asking why Sammi’s not doing it. You have to ask her that. I’m not gonna speak for her," she said. "But Sammi is just in such a happy place that I feel like she doesn’t want to jump back into that drama if it does happen."
Prior to the wedding, Sorrentino put up an Instagram post of the couple with a heartfelt caption: "#Thehitchuation is happening November 1st, 2018," he wrote. "I will be marrying @lauren_pesce My rock, my best friend, my better half & my soul mate. You are my everything & I am so excited to call you Mrs. Situation #gymtanlaurens."
Even so, it must have been a bummer for Sorrentino and his other 'Jersey Shore' castmates to not have Giancola around to celebrate with. It's been nearly a decade since the show first aired, and they've all seemingly become a pretty tight-knit family.
The newly-weds had a beautiful wedding with everything going off smoothly. "There were no issues, everyone was so happy, everyone was having a good time, everyone was dancing," said Sorrentino. 'The Jersey Shore' family have only grown closer over the years. This was evident at the wedding when Farley and Polizzi's four-year-old daughters — Meilani and Giovanna, were made flower girls. Pesce said: "They're like nieces to us."
