Samantha Markle slams Meghan and Harry for abandoning royal family during coronavirus crisis: 'Horribly cruel'
Samantha Markle has slammed her younger sister Meghan Markle and her husband Prince Harry, calling them “horribly cruel” for abandoning the royal family when the UK is in the grips of a coronavirus pandemic.
"Just the idea of abandoning both families during such a horrific time, without so much as a phone call is shocking. Considering he [Thomas Markle] went through two heart attacks without so much as a call, I guess this is status quo for her," she said while appearing on talkRADIO show with host Dan Wootton.
Meghan and Harry announced in February that they would be stepping down from their duties as senior royals to become "financially independent". It is believed that the couple has moved to LA as they want to be close to "their new team of Hollywood agents and PRs". However, despite there being no confirmation that they have completely cut ties with the Buckingham-palace, Samantha called them out for “abandoning” the royal family.
“But I think now to abandon the British people and the British Royal Family at this critical time is just almost... horribly cruel. There's no other way to slice this apple,” Samantha added, suggesting that the decision taken by the pair to leave the royal family amid the coronavirus pandemic was not good.
Samantha's rant comes amid the coronavirus crisis which is deepening in the UK with more than 25,000 positive cases and 1,789 deaths as of April 1. Even Prince Charles was tested positive for the COVID-19, which raised concerns that other members of the royal family may have contracted the illness as well.Though the 71-year-old has recovered now, the royal family is still taking precations. Queen Elizabeth and her husband, Prince Philip, are staying together in self isolation at Windsor Castle in the English county of Berkshire.
However, this is not the first time the half-sister of the American actress has chimed in on the Meghan front. Recently, in March, she slammed Meghan after she announced her collaboration with Disney.
According to Samantha, the ‘Suits’ star was "insensitive" to make the official announcement, which she said was "macabre" when the world is mired in the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. “It's totally insensitive if she was going to announce something. She might want to announce that she's worried about everybody and sends her prayers and love and that she's worried about our father and that she contacted him,” the mother-of-three said.
She added: “You're talking about a person who in the middle of a pandemic tells people to go to counseling school so do the insensitivity math. At the end of the Africa documentary when she said she was glad to know that people were concerned about how she is doing, even in the midst of a pandemic she doesn't seem too worried about how anyone is doing especially family."
In her interview with Daily Star, Samantha, who is wheelchair-bound after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, also stated that Meghan always wanted to go back leaving the royal family. “I think it was clear from the beginning keeping an agent a manager and an attorney in Los Angeles that she had always planned to go back so this is no surprise and it is really insensitive of her to promote her voice-over during a pandemic.”
“Maybe she should write on a banana that she hopes everyone stays healthy and post it on Instagram,” she remarked.
