‘Sacred Lies: The Singing Bones’ Episode 9: It’s hard to look at Peter as a monster despite another killing

Spoilers for ‘Sacred Lies: The Singing Bones’ Episode 9

Peter aka Hunter, has for a long time struggled to bring forth to people his true self (Ryan Kwanten). The ill-fated man is always misunderstood and his actions lead to adverse reactions. However, there is still some hope left in him and he wants to dedicate whatever is left of him to help Elsie attain some peace.

As Amelia Harper (Juliette Lewis) puts her foot down once and for all and refuses to let Elsie (Jordan Alexander) stay with her any longer, a devastated Elsie easily comes to believe Peter and leaves with him to see her mother.

As promised, he takes her to the Inn where Elsie shares the last memory with her mother. Just when she begins to recollect her mother’s enchanting voice and beautiful face, Peter reminds of what exactly went down that night, leaving Elsie shattered.

The latest episode of ‘Sacred Lies: The Singing Bones’ once again focuses on the fact that all the damage caused by Peter has been in the process of self-defense or simply because one refuses to accept that he isn’t a monster. However, while trying to do so, he has ended up committing mistakes that can never be forgotten or forgiven.

Peter’s character falls on either end of the spectrum. He can either love one unconditionally or is driven by pure hatred. Even as he explains to Elsie what happened between him and her mother the night at the motel, you can see tears of guilt and hopelessness filling his eyes. Although it’s hard to overlook his atrocious cruelties, one can’t help but sympathize with Peter each time he justifies his actions to Elsie. Maybe he isn’t so bad after all as a person?

That’s also the reason why Elsie has always felt safe with Peter. However, his latest revelation could have entirely changed Elsie’s opinion of him and it remains to be seen in the upcoming episodes if she will be able to ever forgive Peter or if she ends up becoming another unexpected and eventually untraceable target of his.

‘Sacred Lies: The Singing Bones’ airs Thursdays and is available to stream on Facebook Watch.
