Ryan Murphy's 'Pose' stands a good chance of bagging Best Drama Series in upcoming Golden Globes, believe fans
Showcasing the largest transgender cast in TV history and centering on multiple trans and cisgender characters participating in ball culture in the 80s, 'Pose' is already a winner
Only two months left for the year to end and we have to admit that 2018 was a stellar year for TV. With shows like Ryan Murphy's groundbreaking 'Pose', we look forward to the upcoming Golden Globes as fans are already creating a buzz that the FX show ought to bag a nomination for the Best Drama Series.
And why not? Besides showcasing the largest transgender cast in TV history and centering on multiple trans and cisgender characters participating in ball culture in the late 1980s, the show has been acclaimed by critics all over the world. Getting a much-deserved Golden Globe nomination would only serve to highlight the subculture not often seen in mainstream media.
The heartwarming plot of the drag queens and transgender families revolves around the conservative Reagan, where the HIV AIDS epidemic was at its peak and many were dying of the disease, yet the government was doing nothing to prevent it.
The show, that is set in the backdrop of the '80s is more than relevant in today's world, where Evan Peters who plays Stan, works at the Trump Tower, representing the corrupt corporate structure. The show also tackles current issues including transphobia in the gay community itself as well as extramarital affairs and the need for family. So if you think you have never seen a show like 'Pose', then you're probably right.
Unlike other shows featuring transgenders, this, in particular, does not focus on the sad story or the tragedy of not fitting into societal norms, rather it rejoices in the fact even while demonstrating harsh realities.
Those who followed the show religiously agree that the 2019 Golden Globes should see quite a few nominations from this series. Ryan Murphy is not new to being constantly nominated at the Globes, starting right from winning 'Nip/Tuck', 'Glee', 'American Horror Story' and 'The People v. O.J. Simpson'.
'Pose', which is a culmination of Ryan's genius in the industry, features lesser known actors as the leads such as Mj Rodriguez as Blanca, Dominque Jackson as Elektra Abundance, and Indya Moore as sex worker Angel. Tony winner Billy Porter, who makes a big impression as emcee Pray Tell, is one of the known faces.
The fact that real transgenders and people from the LGBTQIA community are getting to act and share their own story, makes the show even more authentic. So we won't be surprised if the much-anticipated nominations call out to them as well.
As we bet on the Golden Globe nomination for Best Drama Series for 'Pose', we cannot dismiss contenders including 'Homecoming' and 'Killing Eve', 'The Americans' and 'The Handmaid’s Tale'. However, given the fact that Golden Globes is known to be one of the firsts to reward and award new shows that push boundaries, we and the Gold Derby believe that 'Pose', while boasting such diverse casts and venturing beyond the mainstream level of television, has a fair chance winning the Golden Globes. And as the series has been renewed for Season 2, we know the recognition won't stop at that.
