Drunk mother throws newborn son into dumpster moments after giving birth so that she could carry on partying
31-year-old mother-of-two Yulia was right in the middle of an alcohol-fueled party with some of her friends when she suddenly started having contractions at a residence in Ryazan City, western Russia
A mother allegedly threw her newborn son into a dumpster moments after she delivered him so that she could continue to wildly party with her friends. The 31-year-old mother-of-two, Yulia, was right in the middle of an alcohol-fueled party with some of her friends when she suddenly started having contractions at a residence in Ryazan City, the Ryazan Oblast region in western Russia. The authorities have said that she locked herself in the toilet and gave birth to her son in there.
The umbilical cord of the child reportedly fell off during the process of the birth and she didn't have to cut it off. After Yulia gave birth to her son, she put him and the placenta in a garbage bag and then carried the bag out onto the street where she threw him into a dumpster, Mirror Online reported.
The authorities said that after Yulia threw her newborn away, she went back to the apartment and continued to party with her friends. Local media site KEM reported that the baby spent around two hours in the dumpster before a female passer-by heard some noises of distress and on a closer look found the baby beneath a mountain of garbage.
She immediately called the emergency services. The child was found naked and covered with blood inside the garbage bag. He was rushed to the ICU in a life-threatening condition. The newborn's body temperature was only 75F (24C) after he had spent some time in the freezing temperatures. He was diagnosed with hypothermia and his organs were beginning to shut down at that time, reports have said.
Ryazan Oblast region ombudsman Ekaterina Mukhina told RIA: "Doctors did everything possible to save the baby's life."
The authorities found Yulia in an apartment nearby partying with her friends when they checked the residential blocks. The searched the apartment and found blood in the toilet and bathroom along with some other evidence.
The mother told the authorities that she threw her baby away so that she could continue partying with her friends. She was arrested and charged with attempted murder of a newborn baby.
Russian Investigative Committee spokesperson Anzhelika Yevdokimova said: "The mother said that she did not want this baby. She did not even check if it was a boy or a girl before throwing it away. During the arrest, she was heavily intoxicated with alcohol."
Russian Investigative Committee spokesman Aleksandr Sanferov said: "She [Yulia] did not even have to cut the umbilical cord as it had fallen off on its own.
"It is possible that alcohol relaxed her muscles and the delivery was fast and easy. She did not tell her friends about the baby and just continued partying after getting rid of it." Yulia faces up to five years behind bars if she is found guilty of the charge.
Yulia was working as a street cleaner at the time of the incident. She already has two children — a four-year-old and a three-year-old. The mother will now be deprived of parental rights because of what she did with her newborn. Reports have said that her children will be placed in an orphanage.
