Mother arrested for selling her newborn baby to pay for $3,600 nose job

A Russian mother has reportedly been arrested for selling her newborn baby to pay for a $3,600 nose job. The 33-year-old woman, whose name has not been disclosed, gave birth to a baby boy on April 25 at a hospital in Kaspiysk and sold him off five days later to a local couple.

According to the statement released by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Dagestan, "The investigating authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Dagestan have initiated a criminal case against a 33-year-old resident of the city of Kaspiysk," reports Daily Star.

It continued, "She is suspected of committing a crime under paragraph 'H' of Part 2 of Art. 127.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, purchase and sale committed in relation to a person who is in a state of helplessness, known to the guilty person. According to investigators, on 25th April, 2022, a woman gave birth to a male child in Caspian City Central Hospital."

"On 30th April, 2022, the woman who had given birth was discharged from the hospital, where, having met with a local resident, she agreed to hand over her newborn son, who was in a state of helplessness, to him for a reward of 200,000 rubles. She then issued a waiver for the rights to the child, and the suspect received money amounting to 20,000 rubles for the child from the third party," the statement added.

The statement added, "On 26th May, 2022, she received the rest of the money amounting to 100,000 rubles. Subsequently, information about the crime committed became known to law enforcement officers. The suspect was detained in accordance with Art. 91 and 92 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation."

"Currently, a series of investigative actions are being carried out, aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crime committed and consolidating evidence of the suspect's guilt. The issue of choosing a preventive measure against her is being decided," it concluded.

The woman met the local couple and agreed to hand over her newborn son for $3,200. On the day she handed the boy over, she reportedly issued a waiver for the rights of the child and received a payment of $360. The baby boy reportedly fell unwell and the couple was asked for his birth certificate by the hospital, and the police were tipped off soon after.

The woman and the local couple were taken into custody on suspicion of human trafficking. The couple told investigators that the woman asked for the additional money for the cost of a nose job for "better breathing" and they obliged, as per The New York Post. The charges against the couple have not been released by the police.
