Netflix 'Russian Doll': Release date, cast, plot and everything you need to know ahead of season 2 of the dark comedy series
How many of us can claim to have ever had a near death experience? And then feel like life has given you a second chance to live? Well, Netflix's new dark comedy 'Russian Doll' is a clear depiction of the same. The only difference, in this case, is that the character actually dies and comes back to life, not once, but repeatedly.
'Russian Doll' is a Netflix series created by Natasha Lyonne, Amy Poehler, and Leslye Headland, an all-woman writing and directing team. Here is everything you need to know about the show:
Release Date
'Russian Doll' premiered on Netflix on February 1, 2019
The plot
If you have seen Netflix's 'Naked' and other movies like 'Groundhog Day', it might not be that hard for you to guess what the plot of 'Russian Doll' is. This upcoming series showcases Nadia (Natasha Lyonne) at her birthday party in New York City. Everything goes down when she starts to die repeatedly during her time at the party and brought back to the same place again.
Follow Nadia on her journey as she tries to figure out what is happening to her and why she keeps dying over and over again — all at the same time as she tries to keep herself from going insane.
The cast
The cast of 'Russian Doll' consists of Natasha Lyonne who plays Nadia, Greta Lee playing the role of Maxine, Elizabeth Ashley playing Ruth, Rebecca Henderson who plays Lizzy, Jeremy Bobb playing Mike, and Charlie Barnet. Amy Poehler does not appear on the cast list, so it is not yet confirmed if she will make a cameo appearance on the show or not.
Chloë Sevigny, Dascha Polanco, Brendan Sexton III, Rebecca Henderson, Jeremy Lowell Bobb, Ritesh Rajan, and Jocelyn Bioh will all make guest appearances on the series during the first season.

The second season renewal was revealed by Lyonne and Netflix Originals VP Cindy Holland during their joint appearance on Tuesday, June 11, at Recode's Code Conference in Arizona.
