'Run On' Episode 15: What happened to Seo Dan-ah? She may have broken up with Yeong-hwa after this call
'Run On' in episode 15 serves us a shocking twist right at the end, and just when you think things are going well for the two couples -- Seon-gyeom, Mi-joo, and Yeong-hwa, Dan-ah. Turns out, just when the two of them confess to each other about being in love, just as Yeong-hwa unveils the painting that he had completed for Dan-ah, a huge obstacle stands in their way. No, it is not the wedding that has been arranged between Dan-ah and Seon-gyeom. Turns out Dan-ah has always been worried about how things would end with Yeong-hwa.
When she passed out after running the marathon because of her medical condition, and when Yeong-hwa ended up helping her recuperate as well. It is when she drops him back at home that she wonders, would she be able to see her relationship with him through to the end. That is when Secretary Jeong ends up asking her why she is thinking about the end when she had just begun dating Yeong-hwa. She says that when she had truly loved something, she had always lost it, and gives the example of soccer. Something that she was unable to play after her brother snitched on her to her father.

So will her relationship with Yeong-hwa come to an unfortunate end as well? Initially, it doesn't seem so. She is busy resolving issues that have cropped after a scandal about Seon-gyeom's sister Eun-bi gets published. Yeong-hwa gets busy finishing the painting. The two of them along with Seon-gyeom and Mi-joo also have a terrace samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) party too. However, all of this is just the silence before the storm.
When Yeong-hwa finishes the painting, he invites Dan-ah to see it, and with much fanfare too. The painting is a beautiful depiction of Dan-ah and flowers of dynamic hues, and it is also a great portrayal of Dan-ah's colorful character. From this, Dan-ah understands how much he loves her, and she even confesses to him that she can see how much he loves her from this painting. Just as things turn romantic and you begin to swoon over their relationship, Dan-ah gets a call and this call is what changes everything for them.
Towards the end of the episode, neither is Yeong-hwa or the audience are told what the call that she had received was about, but it is clear that whatever the call was about is something that would end up serving as an obstacle to their relationship. While Dan-ah hurries out, Yeong-hwa follows her, holds her back momentarily and with eyes filled with doubts and suspicions, he asks Dan-ah if she will call him back. Her response indicates that the call was about her father who had always been sick in secrecy and that she may not call him back. Her wishes for Yeong-hwa sounds like a bitter goodbye.
