Who are Robert and Kim Rose? 'Home Town Takeover's Ben and Erin Napier help family supporting Wetumpka's teens
For any town and community to prosper, it is paramount to help the youth to nurture and grow their talents, while supporting them throughout. It's a responsibility that falls upon the adults - to help kids and teenagers to move in the right direction and pursue their dreams for a bright future.
For Wetumpka, Alabama, the people who've taken on this role of being mentors to the youth are Robert and Kim Rose. The couple has generously opened their home to the community's youth, creating a safe environment for them to study. To Ben and Erin Napier, the Roses are the perfect example of people standing up and supporting their town, making them the right candidates for a home makeover!

Who are Robert and Kim Rose?
Robert and Kim Rose are Wetumpka residents. The couple served together overseas and have lived in the town for over 20 years. The couple has two children together, Robert Jr and Klaudia. Kim is a teacher and a mentor, who often helps neighbourhood kids with their schoolwork, while Robert started a non-profit organization and basketball team called the Tomahawks, which he coaches. As Ben explains it, they provide kids with a sense of structure and stability.
The couple have an open-door policy
The Roses have a strong sense of community and thus maintain an open-door policy for the neighbourhood kids, allowing them to come over to their house and study and do homework and more. They help teenagers gain a sense of direction and help them gain a better and brighter future.
Their work has sent ripples through the community, seeing that they are truly grateful for the Roses' work. "They are the safety net, they are the rock for a lot of kids. You can go to their house at any given time and there are 10 kids there," said Joey, a coach at Wetumpka High School.
"There would be a hole in the community if the Roses weren't here, because I don't know who else would do the stuff that they do. Looking out for all the kids, opening their home up, cooking for them," said Teddy, who is a part of the Tomahawks.
What did Ben and Erin Napier do to their home?
Seeing that the Roses gave to the community without asking anything in return, the Napiers decided to surprise them with a home makeover. The Rose home is where Wetumpka's teenagers often go, so it was important to create a warm and welcoming space. The Napiers sought the help of 'Good Bones' host Mina Starsiak Hawk, who was ready to jump in and help fix the place up. The majority of the renovations were cosmetic ones, seeing that the Napiers and Hawk focused on bringing in more natural light. They got rid of the awnings on the outside and renovated the entire living room.
They also took down the wall in the dining area, allowing it to connect to the kitchen. Ben crafted a custom wood island to store all the snacks and food in - seeing that the Roses often fed the teenagers that came to their home. They added a basketball court in the backyard, allowing kids to wind down after homework or practice their skills. Erin decided to paint the house yellow, a colour that she reserves for people who exude and radiate joy, which according to her was something that the Roses exemplified.
