ROME, FLOYD COUNTY: In a heartwarming incident, a group of teens from Georgia are being hailed as heroes for saving a woman from a potentially fiery car crash. A 50-year-old woman was pulled from her car after it was stuck outside their high school in Rome, about 70 miles northwest of Atlanta, by Treyvon Adams, Messiah Daniels, Tyson Brown, Antwion Carey, Alto Moore and Cesar Parker.

According to Rome Police Department Assistant Chief Debbie Burnett, the woman was driving a small silver car that swerved and struck a white SUV in an attempt to avoid hitting another car being driven by a teen.

Smoke and liquid sprayed onto the intersection from the vehicle. The woman was unable to exit the car because the door was stuck. The group of boys, between ages 14 to 17, first noticed the accident on their way to school.

Speaking to USA Today, Treyvon who was driving his friends to school, said, "We all knew we had to get her out before something worse would happen. It was right in front of me. I turned off the car and jumped out and said, 'Hey look, let's go help her.' The woman was leaning over into the passenger seat begging for help. She had blood on her face and was screaming."

Wasting no time, the children, who are also in the school's football team, rushed to help the woman while theor Math teacher Luis Goya, who had witnessed the incident himself, dialed 911. "They literally started using their strength to pry the door open, so the lady could be released. After a few seconds of pulling and pushing the door, the boys ended up opening it and helped her get out of the car. She was shaking and still in panic, but our RHS boys gave her comfort and were able to help her," Goya wrote in a Facebook post.

"The Rome High School football players really showed up today. They went above and beyond to help this lady without hesitation," he continued.

Police said thatt he school's cameras captured the accident and rescue on film. Coach John Reid told Fox 5 Atlanta, "When I watched the video, I was like, oh my gosh, these kids really did run right into danger and have a sensational event where they helped a lady out of a car that could have caught fire."

In a group interview with USA TODAY on Monday, August 15, the boys claimed that they were able to open the door after about 30 seconds of pulling and pushing.

At last, Alto and Antwion managed pull the woman out and get her to safety. Cesar claimed that he and Treyvon "overlooked the premises" while looking for the SUV's passenger.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital. She needed some X-rays because she had cuts and bruises, but she is expected to recover.

"What about heroes? To that woman and her family, I'm sure they are, but to us, we're just so proud of them," said Reid.

Police said the teen the woman was trying to avoid was a 16-year-old. They did not report any additional injuries.
