It was supposed to be a romantic holiday that the couple would cherish forever. But little did they know that the dream vacation would take a turn for the worst.

Steven Weber Jr of Batan Rouge, Louisiana, drowned while trying to make an underwater marriage proposal to his girlfriend Kenesha Antoine while the couple was on vacation in Tanzania.

Antoine, an attorney, took to Facebook to share the unfortunate, heartbreaking tragedy with family and friends. She also shared photos and videos of the proposal early on September 20. There is a video she took of Weber swimming underwater with a note in a ziplocked bag. "I can’t hold my breath long enough to tell you everything I love about you, but everything I love about you I love more every day", it read.

On the other side of this note, Weber asked his girlfriend to marry him. In the video, she says yes and he swims out of the frame.

“There are no words adequate enough to honour the beautiful soul that is Steven Weber, Jr. You were a bright light to everyone you encountered", she wrote in her post. “You never met a stranger and you brought so much joy to so many people. You were kind, compassionate, you regularly made me cry with laughter, and you showered me with a love like none I’d ever experienced.”

"Just a couple days before you died, you said to me: 'I’ve seen a few cancer patients on this trip, and it dawned on me that this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing that people want to experience before they die.' And here we are in the prime of our lives doing this. We are so blessed."

"Yes, we were, my perfect love, my angel, my soul. Yes, we were, and I will carry the blessing of the love we shared with me forever. I will find you and marry you in the next lifetime, and the next, and the next, and the next... I love you so much, and I always will."

According to his Facebook profile, Weber was an “RA at St. Christopher’s Addiction Wellness Center.”

Friends and family shared their condolences on Antoine's post. "Steven is the truest friend one can ever know and love. My deepest condolences to you, I can’t express how much my and this world lost with this news," one person wrote.

"My heart grieves this unbelievable news. Thank you for your eloquent, brave words. Steven and I weren’t close, but we didn’t have to be for me to notice the exceptional light that guided his spirit," wrote another.

"Steven was one of my very best friends in high school and for years after that. I think of him often and have missed him, but have been so happy to see him happy and in love," a friend of Weber wrote.

How the drowning incident occurred is yet to be reported.
