'The Brides', a family drama based on the rehash of Dracula with a twist is ready to bring sexy back as ABC greenlit the pilot. Revolving around three powerful female leads, and tying in some horror, the network has described the vampire fueled soap to be about 'empowered, immortal women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy — and their non-traditional family.'

Years ago, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa was working on a series that showcased the Brides of Dracula for the NBC network. 'The Brides' was previously in development in 2015 with the network but never went forward to be developed into a series.

Aguirre-Sacasa has written the script for the pilot and Maggie Kiley is set to direct. Aguirre-Sacasa has executive produced The CW’s teenage drama-thriller 'Riverdale' and Netflix's 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina' while Kiley has director credits for 'American Horror Story' and 'Riverdale.'

Aguirre-Sacasa and Kiley are set to executive produce the pilot of 'The Brides' which hails from Warner Bros. Television and ABC Studios, with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Productions.

Berlanti, a prolific producer in his own right currently has 20 different series to boast - some of the acclaimed shows are the following among many others: The CW's: 'Riverdale,' 'Katy Keene,' and 'All American'; CBS: 'God Friended Me'; Fox: 'Prodigal Son'
NBC's 'Blindspot' and Netflix's 'You' and 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina'.

This also marks a big week for Aguirre-Sacasa who already has three shows under his belt - 'Riverdale', 'Katy Keene' and 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.' The showrunner celebrates a fifth season renewal for 'Riverdale' as well.

His new Archie universe spinoff 'Katy Keene' will make its debut with its first episode airing on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at 8 pm on The CW. The crossover of the worlds of 'Riverdale' and 'Katy Keene' has also been confirmed. Lucy Hale, the star of 'Katy Keane' will make an appearance as a guest star in the 'Riverdale' episode that will air on February 5, 2020.
