If the deal comes through for Robert Pattinson, it has been reported that he will be the youngest actor to play Batman in the movies. Warner Bros has not yet made any formal announcement regarding Pattinson and his role.
UPDATED MAY 17, 2019

Robert Pattinson could soon be playing the Caped Crusader in the upcoming The Batman movie which is scheduled for a June 25, 2021 release. The 33-year-old actor is next in line to play the DC superhero after Ben Affleck who last played Bruce Wayne in 2017's Justice League.

According to Variety, Pattinson is currently in talks to play Batman in the project led by Matt Reeves. Earlier in January, it had been reported that Affleck was no longer involved in the project which he was originally supposed to star in, write, and also direct. Sources shared that the negotiations are not yet complete but Pattinson is definitely the top choice.

Pre-production of the film is reportedly set to begin this summer. As reported by Deadline, the role may not be given to Pattinson as Nicholas Hoult has also been shortlisted for the much sought after role. In January, it was officially announced that Affleck would not be reprising his role and it was reported that the movie would be focusing on a "younger Bruce Wayne".

Affleck had made his DC debut as the Caped Crusader in 2016 film 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'. He also made a cameo in 2016's 'Suicide Squad' and then starred in 2017's Justice League. Affleck was going to co-write the script for The Batman with former DC Entertainment president Geoff Johns.

Pattinson had last starred in 'The LightHouse' with Willem Dafoe which is set to debut at the Cannes Film Festival over the weekend. He is best-known for his role as vampire Edward Cullen in the 'Twilight Saga' which released five films between the years 2008 and 2012. Pattinson has four films opening this year- Claire Denis' 'High Life', 'The Lighthouse', 'The King', and also 'Waiting for the Barbarians'.

If the deal comes through for Pattinson, it has been reported that he will be the youngest actor to play Batman in the movies. Warner Bros has not yet made any formal announcement regarding Pattinson and his role.
