Robert Feldman: Colorado man who killed wife and staged it as an accident gets life in prison
DENVER, COLORADO: A Colorado man was convicted of murdering his wife and staging the crime to look like an accident. On Tuesday, April 19, a Denver jury convicted 59-year-old Robert Wayne Feldman guilty of first-degree murder after about three hours of deliberation. A court condemned Feldman to life in prison without the possibility of release immediately after the conviction was pronounced.
Feldman was arrested in 2018, three years after he killed his wife Stacy Feldman, who had questioned him about an affair with someone he met on Tinder, as PEOPLE previously reported. Feldman contacted 911 the day of the murder in 2015, claiming he discovered Stacy motionless in the bathtub. He then informed authorities that his wife had used marijuana edibles and drank wine the night before at a party and was not feeling well the next day.

During the investigation, detectives discovered contradictions between the crime scene and Feldman's account, leading to his arrest in 2018. Stacy had no THC in her bloodstream when she died, according to an autopsy. While an official cause of death was not determined until 2018, Feldman informed his family that Stacy drowned after slipping on hair conditioner in the shower. Three months after Stacy's strange death, the woman who met Feldman on Tinder called Denver Crime Stoppers. She stated she emailed Stacy on the day of the murder to inform her of the situation. The affidavit stated, “Stacy had told her Robert cheated on her before and that she was ‘done with him.”

The court document revealed that investigators also discovered that Feldman was an hour late to pick up his children from school on the day his wife died. A school administrator is alleged to have contacted both parents' phones, but neither answered. Prosecutors claimed that when Feldman arrived to pick up his children, he seemed untidy and was dressed in shorts despite the fact that it was chilly outdoors. Officers who attended to Stacy's death alleged Feldman tried to interfere with their investigation. According to one officer, Robert was overacting in an effort to avoid speaking with him. Firefighters also reported that Robert was confused, purposefully uncooperative, and refused to have his wife autopsied.
Robert also allegedly collected $750,000 in life insurance following his wife's death and later used the money to pay for his defense. The District Attorney's Office eventually engaged a medical examiner who specialized in suffocation and strangling caused by domestic violence. They discovered Stacy had been strangled and ruled her death a murder. Stacy's sister Susan Malman Altman remarked in court, “I’ve been fighting for this for seven years because my sister deserves to leave in peace. Instead of letting her go to be happy, he killed her.” Meanwhile, Feldman was also given the opportunity to speak in court, but he declined.
