His fan club told people to 'stay woke'
Social media users got hold of an Awake the Rapper’s fan page that was supposedly archived. “Several of these videos have been up for months. Crimo used to perform as Awake the Rapper and received a large number of streams on YouTube before they were removed from YouTube for unclear reasons. According to a fan page, Crimo stopped producing music after that”, said one user as another posted, “Robert Crimo -"Awake The Rapper" - Highland Park suspect. He's insane- he had a fan club - 39k people saw this psychopathic video - and nobody did a thing.”
The next one shared, “His fan club told people to “stay woke,” and allegedly his social media made references to “awakening the dreamers” through a mass shooting.” And, another posted, “It looking like rap music and skateboarding are to blame for the Highland Park shooting, not guns. Also, ladders.” One user tweeted, “There was a fan club page on twitter for "Awake the Rapper", the Highland Park shooter. The fan page has been deleted by Twitter. Now THAT is fu**ing suspicious. Found the page accidentally while looking up images of the freak.”

A person on Twitter who goes by the handle @1cowtools states he knew Awake the Rapper. However, it cannot be verified if this person was writing in jest. He tweeted, "Hi I knew awake the rapper/ Robert / Bobby Crimo. We used to make music together around 2015-18. He’s not antifa, he’s not some maga overlord. I know that shit sounds really interesting. But it’s not the truth. He was an isolated stoner who completely lost touch with reality. 1/2" He further says in lengthy chain of 5-6 tweets about Crimo how: "He coopted aesthetics from the left and right but I don’t think he was any of those things, I think he was lost. Gravitated towards aesthetics he found interesting. Maybe things can change in a couple of years, but he was never a white nationalist. And was never a leftist." The Twitter user has also posted pictures to back his claim of knowing Crimo.
